computer software

I just installed the student bundle. Can some please explain more about these programs: Gaim, KLP, SecureFX, Kerberos, SecureCRT, VPN Client? Which ones are particularly useful? Thanks.

SecureFX is a file transfer program – you can use it to put files in your Athena locker. I love having an Athena locker, because it means you don’t have to put pictures in a Yahoo photos or Imageshack account if you want to share them with people from home.

KLP is a program which allows you to print from your computer to an Athena printer. There are detailed instructions online which tell you how to add Athena printers so that you can use them.

Kerberos is MIT’s identification program – you need Kerberos “tickets” to identify yourself to various programs like KLP and Eudora.

SecureCRT is a program which allows you to log in to Athena from your computer.

Thank you, Mollie! As always, you are very helpful.

How do I transfer pictures on my laptop to my public folder using fetch?? Apparenty, by default, they go to my private folder

I use Filezilla for transferring files, so I dunno; but you could always grab putty and ssh into athena to move them around once they’re in private
