<p>is computer studies and computer science the same thing? and if so, do they lead to good careers. i mean good as in are they usually stable in their jobs or can they get laid off often?</p>

<p>NO!..not at all.</p>

<p>…especially that computer studies program at Univ of Maryland University College. I don’t care WHAT your major is, if you want to work in the software industry and have stable employment, you SHOULD take:</p>

<p>Beginning Programming
Object-Oriented Programming (Java, C++ or C#)
Algorithms
Data Structures
Programming Languages
Operating Systems</p>

<p>At a minimum. There are reasons from my 20 years in the industry why one should take those courses.</p>

<p>Aside from that, you have to keep yourself up-to-date, and you will learn a lot of things as you work.</p>
