<p>I plan on bringing a laptop to Columbia, and it would seem like most students have laptops at Columbia.</p>

<p>I am not fully sure with what Intel is doing, and I have heard some speculation as to Mac finally figuring out a way to use that liquid cooling system and produce the new Powerbook G5 in early 2006. </p>
<p>I would say get your computer just before school starts because most companies have deals for college students.</p>
<p>The only issue I have with Columbia’s WiFi coverage is that it doesn’t go into the actual dorms. So I am thinking about buying an Airport Extreme when I get my Powerbook G4. Anybody else think that this is a good idea or could explain how large the radius is with an Airport and the anti-hacking software pre-installed?</p>

<p>That is what I heard, although, I think its prolly speculation. Apple is having a difficult time with the liquid cooling system. Anyways, I hope it comes out in '06.</p>
<p>it doesn’t have to be liquid-cooled. IBM is working on a new low-power consumption G5. Apple is waiting on that, not for a miniaturized liquid-cooling system.</p>
<p>Even if Apple were to have a liquid cooling system with the existing chip, it sucks up too much battery to be worth it. Apple is waiting on the low-power G5 chip. THink of it as the Mac’s Pentium “M” equivalent.</p>
<p>There are an obscene number of computers on campus (seriously)! And you can also get wireless…everywhere! Bring a laptop; it’s much more convenient, especially if it’s sunny outside and you want to work on the Low steps or just study in Lerner or Butler library—or even if you want to take it to a lecture.</p>

<p>They’re annoying in small discussion-type classes, but a lot of people take them to lectures (some professors ban them if they get to be a disturbance).</p>
