Concentration

Hello everyone,
I am a rising senior who will apply this year at most ivies and top techie colleges.I am an international student asking for almost a full ride.I believe that i have good(if not great)EC’S but the problem with me is that I lack concentration which hinders my preparation for examinations like SAT and ACT and even my school exams but especially for SAT.So I would like to ask you that what should I do in order to increase my concentration power.Shall I study more or stop listening to music in my free times because my mind tries to recapitulate songs which I heard before at times when i try to focus in my studies…

help please…

To be honest, I think SAT/ACT preparation is pretty much like studying anything else. Studying more doesn’t help at all if you’re absorbing nothing.

I very much like a clean desk with no distractions and set intervals with a timetable. If you allocate 30 minutes to SAT preparation, spend 30 minutes, no more, no less. That way you sort of know that you’ll be able to get a break soon, but yet you’ll try to accomplish more because you only have 30 minutes to cram it all in there.

P.s. I strongly recommend the ACT! It is much better for internationals who don’t actually prep for the SATs because it seems much more…studied knowledge rather than…known knowledge. If that makes any sense at all.

You will want to do a lot of research before applying to American colleges, as many of them do not offer nearly as much Financial Aid for international students as they do for American students. You say you will need “almost a full ride,” I think that is going to severely limit which schools you can apply to. I don’t know off the top of my head which colleges do offer F.A. to internationals, but you should be able to do the research online and find this out for yourself by looking at each college’s website.
