Concerns regarding credit maximums and general transfer advice for UC to CC to UC

Hi

I am currently enrolling in Las positas Community college but i was kinda confused about berkeley’s admission policies regarding credit maximum. Previously, i was a student at a different UC but due to current personal issues, and due to my intent to transfer (uc2uc transfer is not really possible), i will be attending las positas for fall of 2025. Currently according to my uc transfer admissions planner, i have 74 semester credits but when i contacted berkeley admission, they told that because u attended a uc in the past, those credits won’t be converted to semester credits (divided by 1.5) and would be added directly as semester credits (15 quarter would be 15 semester instead of 10 semester for example). This means that the credit maximum will be exceeded for all cases, even if i dont take major courses. I don’t know what else can i do but is this true? maybe the admission office didn’t know that this isn’t case? I am not sure and i feel very lost as of this moment. Any advice will be appreciated

Thanks

Do you have 74 semester units or 74 quarter units? Quarter units should be divided by 1.5 to get semester unit equivalent.

If you have 74 quarter units from UC, then you have 49.3 semester units from UC. You should be able to take up to 30 semester units at a community college without going over a total of 80 semester units that could run into the “too many units to transfer” problem (though the limitations vary by campus).

I will have 72.5 semester by end of spring 2026

Looks like you can take up to 7.4 more semester units (or 11.2 more quarter units) before hitting 80 semester units that would make you a “high unit junior” that could cause issues at some UCs for transfer admission.
