Concise Pocket Wadsworth

Does anyone else need this book for their WR100 class? I’ve been searching forever for this book but there is no such title. There are two other books with similar names but I’m not sure which one to get. Has anyone found the ISBN number for this book? I e-mailed my prof but I haven’t gotten a reply yet.

thats weird…if u just type in the author on amazon.com, they give u a bunch of books and one of them is the one we need. its pretty stupid that we need it though, becuase its just basically a guide on how to write…and they are making us spend EVEN more money on something pretty pointless in my opinion.

While it may seem like a bad deal to have to take a class on writing–especially if you’re already a capable writer–I think that you’d be surprised at how many people in this world cannot write very well despite being college educated. In retrospect, I’m glad that BU requires WR100/150. The class content may be very base at times for some people; however, it at least shows that BU does have some standards for its graduates. A lot of the writing professors are very good, though, and they will help you improve no matter what your level of writing is.

As for the text itself being a waste–it can actually come in handy when you have to write research papers and need to look up an MLA or APA citation (I’m assuming that this book is similar to the book I had to use for WR100). At the very least, you’re guaranteed to be able to sell it back.

BTW, I came up with quite a few matches when I searched. The book seems to be only $20…I don’t think it’s too big of a deal to just buy it from B&N if you’re worried about getting the right edition.

The Pocket Wadsworth Handbook, 3rd edition. by Kirszner and Mandell. ISBN 1413011683

parts of it are very useful. other parts are a complete waste of paper. most, if not all, the writing classes require it anyway… so learn to live with it.

the book has changed. it’s no longer just pocket wadsworth. you have to get the one that say Concise. at least that’s what my writing teacher said.

I emailed the teacher for my writing class and this is what he gave me

The Concise Wadsworth Handbook. Edited by Kirszner and Mandell. ISBN:
141301030X

hope it helps

sorry… ignore my previous post then. i guess BU wants to require a new book so previous students can’t sell theirs. probably another BU money scheme… lol.

jessli88 - Do you happen to know what the ISBN number of that book is? Because i’ve searched everywhere for it and there is no Pocket Wadsworth book that contains the word ‘concise’ in the title.

It’s not called Concise Pocket Wadsworth. It’s just called Concise Wadsworth. Slwlisuffocating said the ISBN number is 141301030X, and I think the same handbook is used for all writing classes, so it is probably right for your class as well.

Thats what the teacher gave me, so I’m assuming its right. I never rechecked the name on Barnes and Nobles…maybe I will.

I went to the BN at BU a couple days a go to ask for all the ISBN numbers and for this book they gave me: 1413032753. I couldn’t find it anywhere besides the BN website and (of course) it’s a new edition.

My teacher just emailed me back. She didn’t have the ISBN number but she said that the title was “The Concise Wadsworth Handbook.” She also said to purchase the most recent one which was July 2006 so I guess it’s the one bost88 listed.

how can we find out the ISBN numbers. I wanna use half.com to purchase my books, and the BN website doesnt give me the ISBN numbers?

Either e-mail the professor (though they might ignore you) or you have to go to BN and ask them.

bost88, when you went to B&N, did they have the fall books in stock and ready to sell? because I went there not to long ago and they didn’t have any of the fall books.

yeah, they have all the books but there is a catch…until the 20th (i think that’s the date) they won’t let you cross a certain line to actually enter where all the shelves stocked with books are located (sounds absolutely ridiculous, I know). So you can only talk to someone who looks up the ISBN numbers on a computer…the system is really screwed. I highly recommend going to get the numbers and then going to half.com or amazon.com to find the books used. I got some amazing deals and after the experience going to BN, I didn’t want to give them one cent.
