Concordia vs OSU Japanese?

Hi,

I was wondering whether I should apply for the Concordia Summer Language Village volunteer or youth intern position or Ohio State University’s Summer Intensive Japanese Level 1 program (7 weeks covering 101, 102, 103). I’m learning 2 languages and am fluent in two other. Which program would better fortify my college app?

Colleges are all about service right now so I think that demonstrating that you can use one of your skills and talents in a volunteer position would be more valuable than starting a new language. JMHO

It shouldn’t be all about your college app looking nice. Which one will benefit YOU more? Do you enjoy learning or interning?

I am certain that OSU is a good program. However, I have sent my children to Concordia (CLV) ever since they were fifth graders. I have been very satisfied with the program. The objective of the program is to not only teach a language, expose the child to the culture and to help the child understand the concept of global citizenship. Each of my children (3) has benefited from their experiences. The camp helped each one of them to become more confident and proficient in the languages they selected. In addition, there was an opportunity to learn languages not necessarily available in their respective schools. As a mother, I was pleased as my children were able to attend a camp in a beautiful and healthy environment. They were able to participate in regular camp activities and enjoy themselves, the only difference was that they were completely immersed in a second language and culture. I would define CLV as a place where you learn a language, about a different culture and have fun.

Definetly Concordia. I go to German camp there yearly, and it has bumped me up a level in langauage, and I met amazing people from around the world. I’m sure Ohio States the same, but being around kids your own age having same goals as you is next to nothing.
