I had an accident in the beginning of July. he outside wounds have healed but the concussive symptoms, particularly, headache , fogginess, and light sensitivity persist. I can have good days but especially when I drive for more than 15 minutes the headache starts and gets to migraine status. I was hit in my forehead and the back of my head. the back of the head by a heavy object. does any one have any experience with how long this takes, does I suddenly or gradually get better. This week has been awful. thanks

Please tell me you’ve gone to the doctor about this. I don’t have concussion experience, but I wish you a speedy recovery.

If you haven’t already, first call Monday morning should be to a neurologist. If you are having concussion symptoms, you should NOT be driving.

I have seen doctors they are very vague. wanted to hear personal experience. I look good but don’t always feel good, altough studies are fine. I feel at aloss how are you RGE?

Did you have an MRI?
It still hasn’t been that long.
Have you had your vision checked?
I’ve had two head whacks- and it was quite painful & I had to really rest a lot after the more severe one ( which wasn’t really that bad since I don’t think I ever lost consciousness). I felt the effects for at least a couple months.
Btw make sure your doc knows about ALL the supplements & meds you take & don’t drink alcohol until you are completely healed.

yes I had a catscan when it happened and a mRi last week. The object that fell on me weighed at least 40 pounds. I also fell ad hit my head. How was the evolution ogf healing? what did you notice? I m wondering as I feel the pressure to go back to work. But I have a very challenging job. of course it doesn’t look good that its the summer. Some summer, I spend a lot of time in my house. this is very discouraging!

DepenDing on the severity, it can take weeks or even months to heal. Try not to get discouraged. Using your brain (reading, learning, processing busy or loud places) can be just as exhausting as athletic activity while you are healing. Try to take it easy.

Having an athlete who had a concussions in high school, the Dr said to rest the brain or it would take longer to get over the concussion. No tv, no reading, no driving. You probably should have taken 3-4 weeks off of work and done no heavy thinking.

We have a friend that was in an accident in February and is not cleared yet from his doctor. Still tries to not watch too much media or computer screen. Was told to stay in the dark whenever possible his first 2 to 3 weeks. You may have several more months. Take it slow.

I have a friend who took YEARS to recover from a bad concussion. Months of brain rest, then a gradual reintroduction to school and other things. Still can’t play most sports. I hope you are consulting with a well qualified specialist.

I had a concussion when I was 14. I was in bed for about a month (due to also having badly broken bones that required stretching). I am approaching 40 now and I still get headaches, that sometimes are really hard to control with medication. However, I don’t remember having as many issues as you report. I think you should insist on second opinion.

DTE, who is pressuring you to return to work? I would think your employer, or whomever created the setup that failed and caused this injury, would be expecting a legal suit (irrespective of your intentions). Do not let them pressure you. If you have not seen a neuro, go. I wish you healing.

I agree you need to see a neuro. Your head was hit twice in two different places which sounds pretty bad.
One of my head whacks was from a wild garden hose that got away from me :o ( albeit it was big enough that I had to cut my hair away from my scalp so I could bandage my wound) & even that took a while to mend & it even still hurts sometimes years later.
Your forehead is especially tough, but the back of your skull is not- you need lots of resting time.

sorry this happened to you downtoearth, it must be awfully frustrating to be experiencing these headaches and limitations in functioning. It’s crucial you take the time you need to truly heal. don’t let imagined thoughts about “how it must look” that this is the summer, etc. You were injured…it is completely expected and understandable that you take care of yourself.

Are you on a medical leave, is this a worker’s comp situation? please put your own health first before the job and give yourself the same permission you would give a patient, or one of your loved ones.

I agree with all of the above. Please see the neurologist, oncologist (let’s face it…he of she needs to be in the loop)

I have seen the appropriate docs. Its just so open ended right now. just wondered how you know you are ok? when you have a good week? I need to give work some answers. don’t have any.

Wouldn’t “I’m OK to go back to work” be when the Dr. OKs it? Aren’t they helping you?
