Conditions to check for AP Statistics problems

I know that there are some conditions to check for various problems in AP Statistics before you start the problem. Is there some consolidated list of these conditions for each type of problem?

I skimmed the AP Barron’s book and kind of ignored these conditions, but I’m guessing that they’re actually important for the FRQ part of the test. Thanks!

They are all kind of similar, so i don’t think a consolidated list wouldn’t be necessary.

for sample means, N>30 or approximately normal, and SRS.

for sample proportions, 10N<population size,=“” n(1-p)=“”>/= 10, N(P)>/=10 (or do boxplot to see if it’s approx. normal). SRS</population>

for Chi-square, I believe, but don’t take my word on it, that the conditions are each category should have more than 5? Indepedent (if you’re testing for homogeneity), random sample (if you’re test for independence)

for Regression, there is a lot, and very specific: 1. the distrubiton of e at any particular x value has mean value 0; 2. the stndard deviation of e is the population s.d. ; 3. the distribution of e at any particular x value is normal; 4. the random deviations associated with different observations are independent of one another. Honestly, I have no idea how to prove these, so i’d just not waste the time on the AP test and say these are assumed =[

Hey, what do you use if N < 30 for a sample mean and it is not approximately normal.

Also, what if 10N > population size in a sample proportion, what do you do then?

I think if it’s N<30 and not approx normal, you’ll have to say conditions for hypothesis test is not valid and thus it can’t be conducted. But on the AP Stats FRQ’s, i don’t think you’ll ever encounter it if the question asks you to do a hypothesis test or “use statistical justification”.

if 10N > Population, again, you can’t conduct the test because this suggest the sample is not independent

Thanks for the link! i just bookmarked it =]

Exactly what I was looking for; thanks everyone for the input and help!
