Confessions of an Empty Nester

First off, let me state that I LOVE my 3 boys - one in grad school and 2 in undergrad. I look forward to having them come home. I love seeing them, talking to them, catching up with them. I love cooking for them. I love seeing their friends and finding out what they are up to. And I love watching them interact with each other as adults rather than as kids. They are all back at school now, and I am SO glad to have my house back.

I like walking in the door and not tripping over 27 pairs of shoes that belong to who knows who. I like putting something in the fridge for my lunch the next day and finding it there in the morning. I live watching what I want to on TV. I like having my car available when I want it. I like going off to our bedroom at 7 PM with my husband for “whatever”. I like that when I get up at 2 AM to use the bathroom it is empty!

So I love my kids, but I really don’t miss them all that much any more. I must be getting old!

I totally agree with you. It was great having them home for the holidays and I really enjoyed every minute that they were around. But it is sooooo nice to come down to a kitchen and family room in the morning that looks just like I left it the night before. No empty soda cans sitting around. I can find the remote. The washing machine isn’t going constantly. It is quiet.

shennie I’m with you! Except we just got a boomerong :frowning: DD went back to school but S3 is back home to try to earn enough money to move out again. So we aren’t empty again for a while. I miss it.

Shennie–I love your post! That is exactly what I THINK I will feel…and I truly believe in how much you love your kids. That love has allowed them to spread their wings and you to reclaim your nest ;)…and your lunch…(I often keep food I want at my OFFICE for just this reason!!)
