Let me preface this by saying that CR has always been my best subject on the SAT and I always struggled with math. On the Psat I got a 71 reading score and 60 math. On the blue book I got 720+ every time on reading and under 700 every time on math. However, on this last SAT I got a 680 on the CR which was actually lower than my math score of 720. I guess this can be attributed to a few things. First, I spent the majority of my study time preparing for math because I didn’t feel the need to study for reading and math was my weakest area. Also, I felt the CR section was harder than usual. Could this just be a fluke? I doubt it’s a vocabulary issue since I think I got every sentence completion correct. Maybe I just screwed up an entire passage…What should I do to prepare for June’s critical reading? Should I also continue to prepare for math or will college’s not care as long as the superscore is higher? How bad would a score drop off in math look? Thanks for the advice.
According to some, the CR section was harder than usual without the easier curve that usually accompanies harder sections.
720 and 680 isn’t a huge difference. I was unprepared for the difficulty of the CR. I think it was a little harder than usual.
I got a 550 on the writing after getting 70 on the PSAT so I feel your pain.
I’m not convinced by those who espouse this position.
To the OP: Did you miss any sentcoms?
I think I missed one sentence completion.
How many total? I have no sense of the curve
@marvin100 You’re not convinced it was hard or you’re not convinced the curve was hard?
"Could this just be a fluke? "
Absolutely! Happened to one of my kids. Natural CR scorer, worked very hard for the math. Got a higher math than CR score. Maybe confidence some times plays tricks on us. Or the hyper focus on the math made you more tired for the CR. Who knows? My kid went back though and got a great CR score the second time around.
Check online. The detailed score report has this information.

I would try to do timed practice tests from the Blue Book or other released tests from College Board. How many have you done already? And then go over the questions you got wrong. For CR, vocab is important so either get one of the apps or buy a book. My daughter used Direct Hits but there are others.
