Conflict of interest?

Extremely interested in doing research and submitting to Intel/ISEF. I have read posts on CC stating that a lot of research is done with a Professor as a mentor while doing research. My dad is actually an Engineering Professor , and I was wondering if it would be a conflict of interest if he was my mentor, how would this be viewed. Any responses/input would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting question. When Roger David Kornburg was a high-school student, his father Arthur Kornburg (Nobel-prize winning scientist) was a professor at Stanford. Instead of mentoring his own son, Arthur Kornburg encouraged/helped Roger to find a position in one of the Stanford research labs, where he worked with other scientists. This is the best scenario, in my opinion. It worked out fairly well too, since Roger Kornburg went on to win his own Nobel Prize.
