This summer I have a timing conflict, and I was wondering if I could get your thoughts. I’m a sophomore from California. I signed up for the Math II SAT II for June 2, but I just found out that Teen Vogue is offering me a full-ride scholarship to attend their leadership/activism conference, which takes place at the exact same time as the SAT II.
Has anyone here been to Teen Vogue Summit before/is it worth it? My parents are on the verge of not letting me go because they’ve never heard of it and think I should stick to the original plan. Does anyone know if the scholarship is actually prestigious?
I am currently hitting 730s-740s on my practice tests, too, so I don’t think I could switch to an earlier test date and get a good score.
Thank you so much!! Any and all feedback is greatly welcome.
Can you call the college board to see if you can reschedule, and take the sat 2 tests in May? Is the May date even possible for you?
I’m assuming you’re planning to apply ED To a highly selective college - correct?
Do you know your efc?
The OP says she is a sophomore now. There will be plenty of test dates in the next year to reschedule the SAT II. Have you taken precalculus yet? The Math II test is best taken after precalc.
So I think it would be fine, and even preferable to postpone Math II to a later date when your preparation will be stronger, and go to your leadership conference.
I’m assuming the student is finishing pre-calc and that’s why she is taking it now. I believe you can change your test date to a later date so see if you can take it in the new August 25th date. You’ll have more time to review during the summer.
You have MANY more opportunties to do the SAT, and only one to do this scholarship thing. It’s a once in a lifetime chance. You should reschedule the SAT, which now has an August test date too. Futhermore, most colleges don’t require SAT 2 tests. And 730-740 is a fine score.
Agree with the above. Teen Vogue is great, I am a fan. They are writing for today’s activist teens and that is awesome!
Most top colleges don’t care much about those anyway. They are not important. Just be sure to do a good review for your math SAT 2.
In case you didn’t know, by the way, the PSAT/NMSQT is the one you need to take seriously. Some high-stats kids blow it off because it’s “only” a $2000 scholarship, but in fact plenty of colleges have huge scholarships for National Merit finalists, up to a full ride and even above. Not the Ivies, but some decent schools. Say you want to go to med school - you could save your college fund for that, and pay nothing for undergrad. So do the Khan Academy practice tests and get a good night’s sleep for the PSAT.
Oh, got it – in that case, I’ll plan to take the math test in August, and thank you for the PSAT heads-up too. My parents are a lot more on board after seeing all your responses, so double thank you to everyone!! I really appreciate all the help
