Conflict with my H.S. Counselor!!!

Hey guys… Well I plan to apply to some very competitive schools and have been talking to my counselor about my essays. Unfortunately, I don’t agree with her thinking.

She wants me to write an essay about how my parents were immigrants and how they overcame hardships in America and how I also overcame hardships. While I feel like that could be moving, it seems very overused and too common… I, on the other hand, would rather do something witty and creative, like taking a mundane object and comparing it to my view on life. Which would AdComs prefer?

Write what YOU want to. Admissions officers want to see what you are really like. So, if the more creative, witty essay is more you then go for it.
