I was looking at this website for my major and I have a couple of questions. Why does it say Math 16 OR Math 17 OR Math 18. I don’t get why there are three different ones. Is one better than the other or something? Also, what do the ‘A’ & ‘B’ mean in Chemistry 2A & Chemistry 2B? Oh, and do you have to take Statistics, or can you take Calculus instead?

MAT-16 is regular calculus. no calculators allowed
MAT-17 is biomed calculus, calculus tailored for premed
MAT-21 is calculus primarily for engineering students

CHE-2 is regular chemistry
CHE-118 is organic chemistry

it doesn’t matter which one you take because they are supposed to be “equivalent.” I would take MAT 16.

the curricula is divided into A B &C. A is first B is 2nd & C is the 3rd in the series, follow them in order or you can skip the intro if you got a high score on AP test or credit form transfer credit form CC.

I looked at your website…calculus & statistics depends on which degree you want in psychology.

stats is required for all: AB, BS-bio ephasis, & BS-math emphasis

both stats & calc is required for both the BS degrees in psychology

look in your general catalogue

Good Luck, hope i helped a little

Wow, you helped A LOT! Thank you!!!

I am confused about the different types of math classes. So what exactly is Math 16? Algebra 2/Pre-calc? I get confused because then there are Statistics & Calculus classes apart from Math 16/17/18…

Math 16 is short calculus, 16/17/21 are all calc classes tailored to different majors, nillo_joe already went over the differences. I would also suggest checking out the general catalog for some overview and descriptions. Not sure what you mean by Stats and Calc classes apart from 16/17/21…

Where is this general catalog?

http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/UCDWebCatalog/pdf.html

they’ll probably address all these questions at orientation, so don’t worry too much about it.

To clarify, there is no math 18, you’ve said it twice, it’s called Math 21…

(just so nobody is confused)

^Oops, sorry about that.

Thanks for all of the help! :)

*I have a question…what is the upper & lower division about? I’m confused…and all of those numbers under core division? I have to take all of those classes by the end of four years, correct?
http://psychology.ucdavis.edu/Advising/UGHandbook/10_BSBIO.htm

*Also, I want to take General Psychology, and I noticed that one class has a limit of 500 and the others around 300. So should I take the one with the lowest amount enrolled? Does anyone know anything about Block? lol

lower division is freshman and sophomore level classes, upper is junior and senior level. you don’t have to take all those classes listed under core, the instruction says 7 of the core and the rest of the 40 units can be filled by any upper div psych class
