ok so for if you’re going to try to be part of the screenwriting certificate program, is that like your major? i mean i know that if you’re a film/tv major, you have to take a few “core classes” in the department but other than that, it just says: “An additional eight courses in the School of Communication, including a minimum of six courses in the department on the 300 and 400 levels.” so does that mean you can just take whatever classes you want as long as they are in school of communication??

no, certificate is not a major; it just supplements your major.

yes…looks like it.

okkk thanks!! it’s still confusing though…so it means that i could take like a mish-mash of theater, communication studies, etc and yet still be considered a film/tv major? :-/

Well, 6 of those have to be advanced courses in the firm/tv department:

The certificate just supplements your major. It’s essentially a heavy-duty class your last six quarters, from what I understand. When looking into it, the information described how the certificate classes take precedence to all of your other classes - they try to arrange the class so it doesn’t interfere with RTVF classes, but if they do, you agree to take the certificate classes as priority.

The six courses at the 300-400 level could be the classes in your certificate program if you want I believe…if not you have plenty of time to take both, as the SoCo has very open distribution requirements.
