confused about my Junior year GPA please help

i was just wondering if all universities have different policies regarding the gpa.

for example: my school
A - 86 and over gpa:4.0
B - 74 and over gpa:3.0
C+ - 68 and over gpa:2.5
C - 60 and over gpa:2.0
C- - 50 and over gpa:1.5

another school that my friend goes to
A- 80 and over gpa 4.0
B- 70 and over gpa 3.0
C- 60 and over gpa 2.0
D- 50 and over gpa 1.0

let’s say we both got 82 on math 12, i would have a B, and my friend would have an A. the marks we get would make a vast difference in our gpa.

do universities their own GPA chart for their admission standards?
(because, when we send our transcripts, the GPA would already show up on them) its not fair…:(

One last question.
in my school, the school year is divided into 2 semesters, and i took 3 courses in the first sem, and 5 courses in the second sem.

my gpa was 3.333 for 1st sem, and 3.600 for 2nd sem.
but since i took more courses in sem 2, the GPA for the WHOLE YEAR is 3.5.
unfortunately, my transcript dont show GPA for the whole year, only gpa for each sem.

what if universities add up gpa for both sem, and divide it by two…?
that would make my gpa 3.467. even though there isnt much difference, i’m just wondering.

OMG that was long…please accept my apology…
anyhow, i would greatly appreciate for any help :)

Colleges look at each school differently. Don’t worry, they’ll be fair.

(And actually, you should consider yourself lucky, because out here, you have to have 90+ to get an A).

wow
grade inflation much?

I’m pretty sure on a normal scale it goes
90+ = A (4.0)
80+ = B (3.0)
70+ = C (2.0)
60+ = D (1.0)
<60 = F (0.0)

im confused when schools begin making low 2.5’s into 4.0’s. A college would burn the GPA up and calculate a completely fresh one on their own. I know if I was an adcom I’d refuse to even look at the transcript till they translated it into legible academic language

Do you go to school in America? That way of doing grades seems wack to me.

i go to a school in canada :)

Actually, it seems like a very difficult course to me. Perhaps they need to lower the requirements for an A because students rarely score that high.

93.5=A, 4.0
89.5=A-, 3.67
85.5(?)=B+, 3.33
79.5=B, 3.0

And so on…That’s how it is at my school. Average grade is usually in the B range, maybe?

At my school, it’s
A+(97+): 4.00
A(94-96): 4.00
A-(90-93): 3.67
B+(87-89): 3.33
B(84-86): 3.00
B-(80-83): 2.67
And so on.
