My daughter is being recruited for fencing by OSU, U Penn, Columbia, Penn State, Temple and UNC and I was told at two of the schools U-Penn and Columbia where she was differed, that coaches are waiting to get their Full Slots which will help her get in. I do not know the difference between an incentive slot or a full slot. She has full rides at three schools but she’s holding out to see what happens. Can anyone educate me? Also, should we wait?

big difference between Penn and Columbia and other schools on your list. I’d tell the Penn and Columbia coaches they are my first choice (assuming $$ are OK) but I don’t want to be left with nothing, no scholarships to the other school and no admission to their schools, and ask for their help/advice.

more than a few fencing parents on this board so take their advice over mine!

I am not sure I quite understand, i.e. what ‘slots’ the coaches are waiting for.

What are the official responses from ADMISSIONS so far?
U Penn and Columbia — wait listed?
The others ---- written acceptances?

Have you been sent National Letters of Intent at the non-Ivy league schools or written financial aid offers? If yes, there would be a deadline on there by when you need to sign.

In additon to the great questions beenthere2 has noted above, I have the following

1) What is her first choice?
2) What is the best fit based upon her major?
3) Time is not your friend. She needs to be on the phone now with these Ivy coaches to discuss her situation if she was deferred and the Ivys are her first choice. If the Ivys are not her first choice or she doesn’t get a straight answer, I would move onto the next most desirable school that fits her requirements.
