Legacy applicant at Brown. I wanted to ED but I need to retake SAT to bring my score in acceptable range for Brown. If I chose to RD I can retake SAT in Nov/Dec, but I lose legacy boost and if I ED my score is low. (I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and testing is still a challenge for me).
Brown notes this - In the Class of 2027, 8% are legacies, and 1% to 2% of students every year are children of faculty or staff.
I’m assuming all are in range - and that will change with the test requirement.
Brown ED states if you wouldn’t get in RD, you won’t get in ED.
Unless you have a 1480 on the SAT (25th %) or 34 on the ACT (25th %), I’d wait - but that’s me.
btw - where do you see that Legacy at Brown must apply ED? I don’t see that. Some schools state that but I don’t see it at Brown.
In theory, you should wait because you’ll get the same answer RD as ED or at least they imply that.
What’s your hurry?
Good luck
“Please do not assume that your admission chances are improved by applying under the Early Decision plan. The Board of Admission makes the same decisions under Early Decision that it would under the Regular Decision plan.”
Current is 30 but I am quite confident Nov 8 result will be atleast 33. Grades have a steep upward trajectory and I feel showing one more semester of 4.2+ will help. On the other hand I have had a lot of one on one engagement (with professors etc). My essays and extra curricular will be strong. ADHD diagnosis happened beginning of senior year and I have explained in additional section, I am also hoping that I will update my Nov SAT result (not sure if it will get considered)
I know it’s a long shot whether ED or RD. my essays extracurricular and academic fit based on what I have done so far and what I want to study will be strong. I am only trying to figure out within low odds which is better RD or ED.
Clearly RD - because you have - I can’t say no shot - but in infinitesimal shot with a 30 but if you can get to 34, a reasonable shot and above a 30, a better shot.
Applying ED with a 30 is, in my effort, a waste of your time - unless you’d rather move on quicker to your next choice.
Of those who submitted, 5.73% had between a 29-31 but how many of them were athletes? 3% below 29.
