im turning in my application today! HOORAY!
but im a bit edgy on what to put as my top choices.

i have another post but this one is between the top choices…

my major is pharmacological chem (i know that all colleges offer it) but my top two choices are warren and muir… however im confused which to rank the highest.

i like Muir the most- however is this a party college?
I also like Warren, but when i look at the GE’s the PofCs and the Area studies – Do they relate to the major or are completely unrelated to the major…

I’m a pharm. chem. major in Muir and I definitely like it here. Muir has pretty lax GE’s (the hardest are the two required writing courses) plus it’s close to almost everything on campus. Most of your science classes will probably be at York Hall, which is about a 5-10 minute walk from Muir compared to like a 15 minute walk from Warren, which is at the other side of campus. If you choose Warren, you also have to complete a required writing sequences. As for how many quarters of that you have to that, I am not certain.

As for Muir being a party college, I don’t really have anything to say about that. I mean, it really just depends on the people you meet here. Muir’s clubs definitely plan a lot of events throughout the quarter, but what you do when you get here really depends on your outlook.

My opinions might be a little bit biased since I’m a Muir student, and generally people pick Muir as their first choice college. But you can be a pharm. chem. major in any of the colleges and still do fine.

You can do any major at any college, so dont worry about that.

Theres no such thing as a party college. Muir probably does have the easiest GEs and of course the ocean view.

As for Warren, PofC and AS depends on your major. All engineerings do AS (1 low div, 2 upper div courses. One AS in Humanities/Fine Arts and one in Social Sciences, total of 2 lower div, 4 upper div). All non-engineers do PofC which is basically the same as AS except its 3 lower, 3 upper. So its basically harder than AS. Your PofC/AS has to be unrelated to your major. As for the environment, you’re basically surrounded with a giant canyon with bunnies everywhere.

I applied as Warren first, muir second. I got into Warren (i’m an engineer, thats why i put warren first). If i was in your position, i would put Muir first.

*Unless you plan to double major, in which you may be able to use a PofC as part of your major, cutting a huge chunk of your GEs out of the way. (Remember they have to be in a different section though). I would do Warren then.

EDIT: Warren also has a 2 quarter writing sequence, which you would then follow with either Poli27+28 or Phil27+28

thanks all! i am def. applying to muir first (for science and all) but warren doesn’t seem to bad… i really hope i get into muir… do you need crazy SAT/GPA’s for Muir?

EDIT i have a 4.28 UC GPA and a 1830 SAT (but i retook it…) my SAT 2 are the worst at 650 Math 2 and 620 Spanish (i had a horrible testing day :()

but other than that … im ELC and have great EC’s, 400+ hours volunteer

OMG! this is sounding like a “chance me” thread… dont chance me… i was just wondering what some Muir students scores might be…

Keep in mind that they first accept you into UCSD, then they pick your college. This is where your major might come into play. Best example i can come up with is if someone with outstanding stats apply to Muir where they’re usually a shoo in to get in. However they’re an engineer, so UCSD might still put you into Warren because they think thats your best fit.

This is all speculation, since only the people doing applications really know.
