Hi all,

Today I received in the mail my FOURTH waitlist letter…

What I’m confused about with Carleton’s waitlist is that it does not offer a waiting place for the Fall of 2011, but rather the Spring of 2012?

That’s a new one to me - I’ve never heard of Carleton doing spring admission. I suggest contacting the Admissions Office with your question - they are very helpful.

“We would like to offer you a place on our Waiting List in the hope that a place in next year’s entering class will open up for you later on this spring.”

“In the event that we have space in the Class of 2015 later this spring, an member of my staff will immediately call some students…”

“April admission offers.”

That sounds like they are offering you waiting list for the fall 2011. They are saying that THIS SPRING (2011), as people decline admissions offers, space may open up in next year’s class.

Agreed. they are offering you admissions for next fall, if, later in THIS SPRING (spring 2011), spots open up because enough students have declined. As a result, you will receive a call alerting you that there is a place for you in the class that enters NEXT FALL (2011). Hope that cleared some things up!

For your kind information, if a space opens up later this spring means that if they find out that people havn’nt enrolled and they have spaces they will admit you, but they’ll only know that by spring time.

Does anyone receive the same wording waitlist letter? Because I’ve got the same.

I’m pretty sure everyone’s waitlist letter is the same, because Carleton doesn’t rank its waitlist.

On the other hand, what is a ranked waitlist?

A ranked waitlist, as I understand it, means that the admissions office has already determined the order in which waitlisted candidates will be admitted if they go to the waitlist. This is why a lot of the “I’m waitlisted. What do I do now?” thread responses encourage you to call admissions and try to find out your position on the waitlist in order to get a better idea of your odds. Since Carleton doesn’t rank its waitlist, things are a little more uncertain–here’s a blog post from admissions that talks about it more: [Carleton College: Admissions: Admissions Office Blog: Waitlisted](http://apps.carleton.edu/admissions/office_blog/?story_id=720455)
