Confused

My daughter was denied admittance to FSU last spring . She just received an email from FSU congratulating her on her financial aid award!! Could they have made a mistake? I don’t want to get her hopes up if all this was done in error.

Did the email include the actual financial aid award? Or just a letter!

Call the school, and ask. Financial aid is in a different office than admissions.

You need to call admissions and ask them.

Yes, call them ASAP. I think the best thing to do is clarify the situation as quickly as possible. Schools have been known to send out acceptances by mistake. The reverse could happen. An FA award could happen by mistake. The best thing is to find out what is really going on and keep her agonizing on the situation to a minimum.

Very likely a mistake but yes, call ASAP.

Also make sure the email is actually from the college. I’m not aware of any scams of this type but hey, you never know

It only had the links to “my fsu” which I couldn’t get into because she was not admitted. It was not a form letter and it also contained links to enroll! It was definitely from FSU and the links were legitimate. I guess I will have to wait til Monday to get it straightened out !! I am biting my nails at the moment!!

Send an email and CC both the head of admissions and head of financial aid.
This time of year many are working on the weekends.
I would also try calling even if it is a weekend. You never know.

Schools have mix ups all the time. My D was waitlisted from EA and got an acceptance letter the next day for regular admittance from the school.

The answer is call them.

Yup. Call.

Is it possible that your daughter missed an email from FSU? Does she still have her EMPLID and password (? - think that’s what they called it and my memory is fuzzy). Can you get into the FSU system that way?

Just thought I’d throw that out there . . . you’ll probably end up having to call though. Ugh it’s frustrating I’m sure!

Thank you all for your advice. I will be calling first thing Monday morning. I have her EMPLID and we have been able to log in to myfsu, but it doesn’t have the tabs regarding financials like it would for admitted students. Of course this had to happen on a Friday evening…lol.

Would she switch schools at this late date? I hate to say it but if it isn’t on her online portal, it was probably a letter sent in error.

At this point she would not switch. However, FSU was her first choice and dream school. If she was indeed accepted, she would probably transfer in the spring. I’m afraid it was an error also, that’s why I’m calling FSU before I get her hopes up.

If she is indeed accepted and she wants to go, I’d suggest a spring starting date and just stay home and work this fall. She can easily make up the fall credits by taking a few summer sessions and graduate on time. They might even let her take online courses now.

Good luck.

All Florida universities already have a requirement for 9 hours of summer courses, so she may not be able to take the courses she would have taken in the fall, especially if she has a full time summer job or internship. If it is her dream school, I would see if course selections were already done and if she can still register for the courses she wants and needs to take, see if they have acceptable dorm space available and if there is another orientation session. Best of luck!

Most of the Florida schools offer quite a selection of summer school classes over 2 or 3 summer sessions. I wouldn’t worry about summer courses.

I’m interested in the outcome of this situation, although the OP would be more likely to post if the news were good than bad -understandably.

@floridiangal Any news?
