Confused

I wanted to get some insight on what to do. I’m a latino high school senior in Dallas Texas, 8 days away from May 1st which is college decision day. I want to major in business to get a mba and have been accepted to these schools. I want a laid back college environment, I’d also prefer a party college to get the experience.

University of Dallas
University of San Francisco
University of North Texas
Fordham University - Waitlisted
Unsure if I should apply to Arizona State University which has rolling admissions.

My main priority is cost, because of this, I don’t know if I should email Fordham for an appeal since my college counselor said they’re a school partner which favors students from our school and could potentially offer more money. I also want some insight if I should apply to Arizona State University since it is a good business school.

After a quick google search it said that if you don’t admit into the college (enrollment deposit) by May 1st you lose your college spot. I’m so undecided but I also don’t want to lose my spot in case I do end up wanting to go there. What would you if you were in my position? Any advice?

Ok to speed up time here a you say the clock is ticking, lay out the cost of each school after their aid package, if your waitlisted at Fordham , you will have to deposit at some where else anyway so plan of Fordham not being on the list for now, toss the costs out and we will give our options. As a general rule if grad school is in your future this board will suggest not having a lot of debt for undergrad. Did you run the NPC for each school to give you an idea of cost’s? How much can you and your family pay for college each year.

@AnthonyManny , personally, I’d lean toward applying to ASU and putting a deposit down on another school while you wait. I’m not wowed by the other schools. Disclaimer: My daughter is headed to ASU in the fall (COVID dependent), and in to WP Carey Business and Barrett Honors. She turned down Michigan (my alma mater) and Wisconsin to go there. I’m more and more impressed with ASU.

The business school at ASU is very good, with Top 10-12 ranking in Supply Chain Management, Management, and Marketing.

You may or may not want to major in business, rather than getting a liberal arts degree, if you want to get an MBA later. Many MBA programs like liberal arts majors. I did just this.

Barrett Honors allows you to apply for second semester admission. Widely regarded as the best pure honors college in the country.

Here is another option at ASU: https://thunderbird.asu.edu/degrees/graduate-degree/4-plus-1-master-global-management

Thunderbird is very well known in international circles. My daughter is looking at this, and you save a ton of money over an MBA.

ASU is very good socially, and it’s a big school, so there is a department for every subject, some you haven’t thought of. Also has big time athletics. But unless you get a financial aid package, it’s about $50,000 OOS/year.

Finally, since you are Hispanic, are you a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar? Or National Merit Finalist? ASU gives big money for both.

Apply to ASU.

Run the numbers for your aid packages here: https://www.finaid.org/calculators/awardletteradvanced.phtml

Run the Net Price Calculator for ASU and see whether it is likely to be affordable: https://students.asu.edu/financialaid/net-price

If ASU looks like it will fall into your affordability range, apply there.

You are wait listed at Fordham, so choose one of the other places (if they are affordable) and make our deposit on time for that place. If you get off the waitlist at Fordham, and the aid is good enough, that will be the time to decide if you like Fordham better than wherever it is that you have deposited.

@AnthonyManny
Were you admitted to UT Dallas or University of Dallas? Because a kid wanting to party wouldn’t be very happy at University of Dallas (known to be very strict).
Fordham: yes, have your GC call. But you need to decide before you hear back from them. So, keep them on the backburner for now.
ASU: Yes, apply immediately. Email Barrett (Honors) too as it’ll make a huge difference to your experience (Arizona is investing a lot in Barrett students, much less in “regular” students.)

That leaves UNT or USF to deposit.
Do you want a “cool”, relatively wealthy Catholic college in California? Or a relatively nearby, traditional, “rah rah” public university (football, soccer, volleyball, and basketball are all pretty good!)
If you REALLY REALLY can’t decide, email both of them to ask for a 2-week delay to decide. See what they say. Perhaps, go with the more flexible university since it may be a good sign of the way they treat students (with the virus, universities know students are in a difficult position. If they can’t be flexible now, it may not be a great sign).
