First Gen Student

I read on FSU that their definitions of a First Gen are:

-An individual whose natural or adoptive parents did not receive a bachelor’s degree;

-An individual who, prior to the age of 18, regularly resided with and received support from only one parent and whose supporting parent did not receive a bachelor’s degree; or

-An individual who, prior to the age of 18, did not regularly reside with or receive support from a natural or an adoptive parent.

Now does that apply for most schools or this one?

If so;

I was raised by my father who never went to college, my mother passed away when I was 5 and she did earn a BA.

Does this make me a first gen?

You seem to fit under the 2nd criterion

Each school will evaluate this differently. Some will agree with FSU’s definition, some probably will not. You’ll put the info down on the common app and they’ll evaluate your entire record. Good luck.
