Congo needs our intervention

I remember when President Clinton claimed to have not known about what was happening in Rwanda- I was incredulous, because if a housewife in Seattle- who happened to read Mother Jones knew about the genocide, how could the President of the United States be in the dark?

I hope we are not going to use that excuse again.

I know that it is overwhelming to think about.
But awareness is the first step.

The UN is already there - 13,000 troops - one of its largest missions.

one of the legacy’s of W is that USA may never again undertake a rightous war or peacekeeping mission.

Yes- I know that the UN is there- but their effectiveness seems to be limited.

I had to look on the map to see where this area is located. The Methodist Church has been supporting many projects in the Katanga area, which is in the southern part of the DR of Congo. I sit on a committee for our church, that sends thousands of dollars to that area. If added to other Methodist church giving, I’m sure it’s in the hundreds of thousands. But I’m constantly hearing rumors of corruption, supplies sent aren’t being distributed or money is not being used for what was intended. You want to help, but everything seems so hopeless there.

I find it depressing, overwhelming, and to be frank, I feel frustratingly helpless.

Darfur would be easier and worthy of intervention since China refuses to use its influence and the UN is ignored and helpless there.
