Congratulations! You're Engaged!!!

Crate & Barrel
Williams Sonoma
Marie Chantal (planning ahead!)

If I couldn’t choose a honeymoon registry I don’t know. I too loved the things off registry, a homemade blanket, crystal bowl, etc.
I wish I had chosen different China. Mine was Lenox with pearls on it. Beautiful but needs to be hand washed. So I never use it. I do use my Waterford crystal. So I guess I’d choose Macy’s and register for crystal including a Waterford punch bowl and cups.

@momo2x2018 I thought the Marie Chantal prices were really steep until I saw the boys pug cashmere sweater LOL!

We registered probably at Macys (which was still Bambergers then). My aunts got us our silver and my parents some of our china. I still love my china, although Lenox does not make it any more. I got extras from the Lenox warehouse (seconds but honestly can’t tell on most of it). I use it for holidays and for cake and coffee when it is my turn to host book group. I

I would still register for china and for other things I wouldn’t buy myself. Of course, that is me looking back. If I were 27 now who knows? But yes to likely Macys, Pottery Barn and perhaps Williams Sonoma. I still look at some of the things I have and think of the person(s) who gave it to us. One of my nieces registered for “real” china, but the other showers I have been to have mostly been more everyday items.

Those gifts were for engagement and shower from mostly aunts and grown up cousins on my side (9 altogether from both sides). Wedding gifts were mostly cash, although friends gave us some art/pottery and a group gave us a weekend away.

@HouseChatte $$$$$ is the whole point of a Wedding Registry - LOL!!!
OMG, that pug sweater!..https://mariechantal.com/baby-girl/pug-cashmere-sweater/
My S has always wanted a pug, I told him when he graduates college, maybe then.
Perhaps I’ll get him this sweater instead; less mess, more manageable - and soooo cute! :))

I am attending a wedding where the registry is on zola. The two options are pay for their pet’s dog training classes (dog’s first day of school) or contribute to the honeymoon fund.

If I were to go back and do it again with the knowledge I have now I would ask for things that spark joy. :))
Probably registry for a travel fund or a downpayment for a house fund.
I didn’t have a registry the first time and I really didn’t miss out on anything.
I probably wouldn’t need more stuff and if I had too I would want to pick it out myself.

If I had to pick a store it would be Costco. Everyone could just buy the cashcards and I would use it for gas in my car or buy things as I need them.

I think I’ve just become too practical.

I’d register at Etsy. I’d register at Williams Sonoma!!! Honestly, I can’t remember if we registered! I think no – pre internet, tiny tiny tiny town.

I just realized we did have a few things registered. Mainly Waterford glassware.

I never registered for my first marriage in 1989 (not sure it was a “thing” back then) nor for my second in 2013 because we needed nothing at that point. I had a yard sale about ten years back and so many things I got from my first wedding shower were sold (brand new)…really, how many crockpots, punch bowls, sets of wine glasses, can one couple use in their 20s LOL

We have been married almost 37 years. Without a doubt…the most used wedding gift was a crockpot given to us by a few of my coworkers. I replaced it about 10 years ago when I bought one as a shower gift for one of my coworkers.

Other gifts we have and use…the Lenox plates.

The Orrefors never really got used…and are now packed in boxes in our basement.

We, too, are married almost 37 years and I can say without equivocation that the best gift we received was a fully stocked toolbox! We were registered at a local department store and were gifted many lovely things, but the toolbox is used frequently and its giver remembered fondly!

We use our Waterford. The starter set was from coworkers. And it’s probably the most used gift. (Not counting a nice table lamp someone gave us.)

Our issue is DH was an only child and his aunt never married, so he got everything of his mother’s and hers, some of which belonged to relatives ahead of them. I got my mother’s and grandother’s silver. I’m fortunate my two girls each like a different one of the two sets of china. They’ll eventually split the silver, whether or not they like it.

On some thread, Imentioned my bff has 84 (!) boxes of her mother’s china, different patterns/quantities. Seems her parents liked to haunt second hand and sale places.

$245 for a baby’s sweater???

Registries were definitely a thing in the 80s and before!

My Lenox China really screams 1980s (gray and mauve!) OT else I would use it more often. I love to use our crystal and silverware.

We received sheets, comforter, towels and that was welcome as we were dirt poor.

Some people bought things not on the registry which is why I have several decorative platters that don’t match anything

Our east coast tradition is to give cash for the wedding, so going to a shower to give more cash (which is really what you are doing if just contributing to the honeymoon) definitely rubs me the wrong way. If you don’t need anything, don’t have a shower. The idea of a shower should be to get gifts to set up a home together, not to just get more cash.

@mom2and, I’m CT born and bred and it was NOT our tradition to give money. It’s not an east coast tradition. It was an Italian tradition and a Jewish tradition, and also seen in some other Mediterranean and Eastern European ethnicities such as Syrian/Lebanese where giving gold to the bride was the old country tradition.

I remember seeing The Godfather with a friend in HS, and neither of us could figure out what they were doing with those envelopes during the big wedding scene, LOL.

I agree with you about showers.

Fun thread! If I could, I’d register at Etsy.

If not, I’d register at my local artisan shop which sells fabulous pottery (among many other beautiful things). How fun to have a full set of hand-made ceramic tableware!

And for those theoretical generous family members/friends, I’d also register at Crate and Barrell for good furniture pieces and really nice linen.

Finally, I’d register with a local carpenter who makes gorgeous built-in bookshelves.

That’s all… that’s “all” I’d register for.
