Hey -

Here comes the time for college applications… so my 10th grade history is slowly creeping up and biting me in the a**. In the 10th grade, second semester, I had accumulated 10 tardies in my first period English II H class - the school was merciless and followed the policy; you get drop/failed after 10 tardies. The best part about the whole scenario is that it was on May 19th (2 weeks before school ended) and I had an A. It was disgusting and I cried many hours over it and developed many white hairs… the WF goes into my GPA as an F. They let me (as an ffing “courtesy”) retake “Honors British Literature” at Laurel Springs and that was put on my transcript. So… not that college apps are here - what do I put for “additional information” on the commonapp? How can I exaggerate? Can I even, should I? Also…when reading these types of proposals, do the universities ever call my counselor to “double check” or ask for an attendance record? I’m asking to be able to determine if I can lie at all about anything. Luckily… my 9th and 10th grades were crap but my junior year I got a 4.8 and am doing even better right now (straight A’s in all APs). Also… kind of a chancing question… but will a “focus” help me get into college? I’m applying to all schools with a “linguistics/foreign language” focus and everywhere you see it’s languages; essay, extracurriculars, future goals, everything. Is that a lot of an edge? Also I took AP French and AP Spanish (skipped 3 years in each :p) and got 2 5’s. Should that compensate for any issues? Or should I not even dream about it… Also I expect my December ACT to be 32+. SAT 2s - Sp780-Fr-780-Math2-790.

Thanks

Btw… I’m applying to Dartmouth, Middlebury, UPenn, BU, Columbia… etc - all with a linguistics/foreign service worker type of thing.

What “safety” schools should I apply to… because I can’t seem to swallow my pride and apply to any.
