conservative/libertarian scene

How is the conservative/libertarian scene at Berkeley?

You do realize that those 2 words are not really close to synonymous, right?

But there exist conservatives and libertarians.

You will get more flack for directing the word hate at ANY group of people than for having political views that exist outside of what the masses believe. The political environment here can be hostile, but since election season just passed it really shouldn’t be quite as intense in the forthcoming years.

I really don’t think liberals in general at Berkeley are hostile towards conservatives. As a liberal, I don’t care at all if you hold conservative views. Just don’t expect me to listen to what you say or be your friend. You’ll be just fine hanging out with people that share your views.

That is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard of in my life.

If you hate them, they’ll hate you… just saying.

Lol, TheBanker, I’m just telling it like it is. There is no hostility between conservatives and liberals, just no interaction either. That’s just the way it is, at least among engineers and scientists.

“There is no hostility between conservatives and liberals, just no interaction either.”

I find the second part very hard to believe.

“That’s just the way it is, at least among engineers and scientists.”

I find this generalization also very hard to believe. I do research in topological fluid mechanics and certain types of homology so I’d like to consider myself a subset of the latter group. Yet, I interact with right-wing scientists here and there. I happen to be friends with several of these people, as are most people in my research group. And no, we don’t talk about point vortices every single time we get together.

It’s generally not an issue except in certain humanities departments where some professors presume the liberal worldview and expect it from their students.

“That is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard of in my life.”

I take no issue with his comment. I would much prefer that than those who spend their entire time trying to tell someone that their opinions are wrong because its not inline with their own.
