I was an MT major at a performing arts high school, and I appeared in local productions in the West Palm Beach/Boca Raton, FL area, but due to a less successful audition season than I anticipated (I was offered a music scholarship to Otterbein, and I was accepted to 15 schools academically, although only two for theatre), I had to settle with going to the University of Florida. I am an incoming student at the University of Florida’s Innovation Academy. The program only allows students to take classes in the Spring and Summer semesters, and we are not allowed to major in theatre or music (let alone MT) since the program is brand new. As a result, I cannot take part in summer programs or audition for summer stock productions. Does anybody know of any fall-semester intensives for musical theatre (or just acting or voice)? Please note that the fall semester at UF is from August through December, so CAP21’s Showcase Practicum might not work since the Showcase takes place in late January. Thank You Very Much!

And to be clear, I am able to major in English and Communications and Minor in Theatre, so I am not keeping myself from performing. I just need to see if there are any opportunities for those students who don’t have the summer terms off.

I’m no expert on this subject, but you could try calling CAP 21 and see if they could work with your schedule (you pay the full price, but leave a week or two early). You could also try the colleges’ websites to see what they’re offering. Did you look into Circle in the Square? I know they have a summer program but I’m not sure of the timing and you’d have to call them to see if you could leave the program early if it doesn’t match your schedule. Also, check out Broadway Artists Alliance. They accept kids up to age 21. All three of these summer programs are audition-based. If you’re a dancer, there are summer internships avaiable at Broadway Dance Center. If you’re not a dancer, and want to be, you could also take lot’s of dance classes over the summer.

You graduated from HS last spring, are taking this fall off, and then will be starting your Innovation Academy/ UF classes in January, yes? So, you are looking for programs that you may be able to do during the fall semesters of your sophomore, junior, and senior years? Yes?

Some programs to look at:

[O Neill Center :: National Theater Institute](http://www.theoneill.org/national-theater-institute)
[Theatre Academy London](FSU International Programs 404)

Also look into study abroad programs through other universities… Syracuse University used to have students from other universities study abroad for theatre with students from other universities able to apply for and attend the program.

Goodspeed has a MT dance intensive at the very beginning of August, that might work with your schedule [Goodspeed Musicals ? Find out what classes and workshops are offered at Goodspeed](<a href=“Official Site of Goodspeed Musicals - The Max Showalter Center for Education in Musical Theatre, East Haddam”>Official Site of Goodspeed Musicals - The Max Showalter Center for Education in Musical Theatre, East Haddam). They also have internships during the year.

Many other theatre companies offer internships and apprenticeships as well… McCarter Theatre – [McCarter Theatre](<a href=“404 | McCarter Theatre Center”>404 | McCarter Theatre Center), Long Wharf – [The Next Stage Program - Long Wharf Theatre](http://www.longwharf.org/next-stage-program) are two off the top of my head… there are others as well. Many casting directors and agents will also offer internship opportunities.
