Considering CGS and 575 Commonwealth

I’m considering attending CGS and living at 575 Commonwealth. It’s supposed to be an 18 minutes walk (which is slightly long) or a 7 minutes commute with a bus…

BU students, is this reasonable? or would this commute be crazy to do in the winter?

It’s been a long time since I was a BU student, but I lived at West Campus and walked to the School of Education (back then it was in the same building as the Law School). It wasn’t a big deal. If the weather is bitter cold you can take the shuttle, but most days you’ll enjoy the walk.

I have a friend who’s in CGS and lives at 575. When it’s nice out, she bikes to class, but I remember her complaining a lot when it was cold and snowing.

The only real issue is that CGS is on the other side of the BU Bridge and that means you have to wait at the light in the cold. That and closeness is the advantage of living in West. That plus easy access to FitRec.

There are good reasons to live in the “older” section of BU, such as simple walking into Back Bay, but there are good reasons to live on the Allston end too. That is where more kids live off campus, so more parties, and that is where dozens of restaurants are.
