*I took a look at Crash Course, and it does appear very concise. Unfortunately, that may be a mixed blessing. From what I’ve seen, it looks like a set of notes (albeit a voluminous and well-written set of notes) of the most important things you will find on the exam. Which means the student will be at a loss for the curve balls the exam may throw. It’s a good substitute for notes you may have not taken in class, but it certainly doesn’t beat a comprehensive knowledge of the textbook.

^ I think the purpose of Crash Course is to give you the most information that will most likely show up on tests. For example, if 65 of the 80 multiple choice questions contained material covered in Crash Course, you should get most if not all of them correct, provided you understand them. While the other questions may be material not covered in the book, you should at least be able to answer them provided you studied for the test.

hello guys. i am not taking any of the AP tests, but need your help in choosing some good books for freshening my knowledge, specifically of chem and physics. i want to study them over summer to perform more or less well in college (i have been out of school for almost two years :(). so i thought AP prep books would be just perfect, please correct me if i am wrong in that.
thing is, i am an int’l student who never had any subjects taught in english (except for english language, of course), so i need books that are quite easy to understand.

what do you think of PR and Larry Krieger’s Crash Course, for physics and chem? i remember their sat prep materials – language was very comprehensible.

your advice would be much appreciated! thanks.

What’s the best prep book for APES? I’ve looked at Barron’s, Princeton Review, and 5 Steps but can’t figure out which one is best.

is barrons good for ap calculus AB?
How is Petersons? and does anyone know where to get the multiple choice and free response questions for ap calc? apparently b&n doesnt have any copies of it..

You have to order the released exams (full exams with multiple choice & free response) from the College Board website.

The free responses (for every year, not just the released exam years) are available for free for download from the College Board website.

My daughter likes Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam. It covers AB & BC.

Any comment on CliffsAP for Euro History?

That’s what we’re using and I was wondering if I need to get something else..

Is PR for both macro/microecon enough?? Does it basically cover everything? Because I bought it and it’s extremely small haha.

I am quite confused with the physics thing with either PR or Barrons
there seems to be support for both. I own both, but I have not take the exam so I cannot say which one is better. To me it seems PR is quite easy to read, and barrons is much harder
in fact, barrons shows you some prty complicated differential equations and shows solutions of equations that require multivariable calculus(beyond the scope of this course!)
but im jsut wondering
if I can do everything in PR, does that mean I’m good to go?

So Barron’s is good enough for AP Stats, then…right??

And I have Be Prepared for Calculus.
I’m in CalcAB
So far I haven’t really used it. It looks pretty good…I just don’t really like how it’s formatted? And I wish they had more examples. Otherwise, it has a lot of good problems and it explains things pretty well.

Forgive me for not reading through all 46 pages of this thread… but I am unsure if the original post is up-to-date, considering it was posted in 2005.

Are these still the best?
Biology – Cliffs
World History – Barrons and Petersons practice tests

Do these books come out in a new version each year, or how does it work?

TIA

For Art History, I cannot recommend the REA book highly enough. It’s the best review book I’ve had for ANY AP class. I had an awful teacher and learned nothing all year, but this book was so clear and what it told me to know was EXACTLY what was on the test. It was ridiculous. Very helpful “10 artworks you absolutely must know” type sections in the back, too.

For AP Calculus BC, is the Peterson’s ([Amazon.com: Master the AP Calculus AB & BC (Peterson’s Ap Calculus Ab & Bc): Peterson’s: Books](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0768924707)) book up to date?

I’m wondering because the publibish notes say: Peterson’s; 2 edition (February 1, 2007)

I don’t know about Peterson’s for AP Calc BC. I don’t think there have been changes to the exam since Feb 2007.

My daughter really likes Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam by Howell & Montgomery published by SKylight. It has material for both AB & BC.

i’m wondering about us gov and english lit.

although i got a 4 on the english lang last year, english lit definitely seems to be more intimidating. let me know what study guide i should read for lit.

for gov, i can see that most of it is just historical knowledge. i got a 4 in apush last year, so i’m not that worried. however, please let me know what is it the best prep book to read for gov (including one that contains good sample tests), because i didn’t pay much attention in my gov class this year and because the teacher didn’t help that much.

Advice on AP Comparative books?

PR, Barrons, Kaplan, REA, Cliffs..etc?

AP Comp Gov: [Amazon.com: AP Comparative Government and Politics: A Study Guide, 3rd edition: Ethel Wood: Books](http://www.amazon.com/AP-Comparative-Government-Politics-Study/dp/0974348139/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1239560582&sr=8-1)

^ Thanks!

Which one is better for AP Environmental Science?

REA or Smartypants Guide?

I haven’t really heard about any other ones. Is Barrons or PR good for APES?

I have both PR and Smartypants, and I must say PR is the better of the two.

I have the Barron’s 2008 book for AP stats right now and I dont like it. There are many errors in it, and the explanations are far from satisfactory, both in the topic discussion and answer explanations.
