Consolidated book suggestions for AP

Motiviated101, Go with PR for Euro and just the PR for Chem if you actually go through stuff in class somewhat decently.

^ im self studying so… i should probably still get barrons as well.

Self studying both?

For Euro you might want an actual textbook type of thing, and for Chem get the Barron’s if you don’t have a teacher and use the PR for review before the test.

^ yeah I am.
Im actually not feeling that bad for Euro because of the fact that I have already studied AP World History. And although I know that I will be digging deeper in AP Euro, I do know generally what happened in Europe from 1450-Present.

Which book should I use for AP Physics C. I would like more of a study guide type, rather than test prep. (not taking AP test, taking calc-based physics at college instead)

for euro and politics and gov, im considering buying some older (aka cheaper) review books, but do not want to jeopardize my score. Would it matter what year the review books are from???

I’m taking the following during the 09-10 school year:
AP Calculus BC
AP US History
AP Chemistry
AP Computer Science

I can only buy one or two books for each so what do you guys suggest?
thanks
-th3dude

What prep books do you guys recommend for:

AP Chemistry
AP Physics B
AP Calculus BC
AP U.S. Government
AP English Lit.

th3dude, AMSCO and Crash Course are good for APUSH.

Plan on self studying for exams:

tests:
US Gov
Ap Euro
AP World
Human Geography
Comp. Gov

What books should I get?

For AP Euro get Chris Freiler’s book, AP Achiever, I self studied Euro this year, and that is the only book that I got that I found useful. I’m pretty sure I got a 5, maybe a 4 but most likely a 5.

For US gov, PR is the best that I’ve found. It would be ideal if you found something better than that though, b/c I’m pretty sure I only got a 4 or maybe even a 3 on the test.

But I’m a math/science person, so PR for US gov might be good for you, but definitely get AP Achiever

th3dude: AP Calculus BC- PR
AP US History- AMSCO
AP Chemistry- PR
AP Computer Science - no clue

mirsad05:AP Chemistry
AP Physics B- PR
AP Calculus BC- PR
AP U.S. Government- not the PR
AP English Lit.- Cliffs? or you could just read books

liljay527:
US Gov- not the PR
Ap Euro- PR
AP World- Barron’s
Human Geography- Barron’s
Comp. Gov- the Ethel Woods book

does it matter (for like euro and gov and politics) what year the review books are from?

I don’t think so, the test doesn’t change too much year to year, as long as it is within the past 4 years or so I think you should be good.

The only review books that are outdated from like 2007 and such that I know of are Bio and Chem.

Recommendation on LIT??

For BC Calc I’d recommend Peterson’s, it was great.

What makes AMSCO better than other USH books?

Confirming:
Chem- Barrons/PR
Bio- Cliffs/Barrons
USH- already have amsco.. what else?
English Lit- I’m probably not getting a book for this but what/how shoud I study???

Thanks!

My recs:
World- PR(good overview, connects things really well)/Barrons(more comprehensive/in depth)
Euro- Modern European History
English Lang- PR was kinda helpful but definitely not necessary
Psych- BARRONS! (but one thing that was necessary for the test was in PR that wasn’t in barrons. but barrons was still better overall)
Human Geography- Barrons. But it didn’t help me. I lack the basic knowledge that you need for this. So even though I studied… I didn’t think it was easy. Everyone seems to understand different parts of the world and know things like what the most common crop of wherever is, but I don’t. :[ even though I studied. Sorry for my rant.

PR is good for Bio. I liked it better than Cliffs. As I have probably stated many times before.

Kivanova, AMSCO is great because it has essentially everything you need to know in an easy-to-follow format. Every other APUSH book I’ve read was either too vague or disorganized, etc. It also has good MC practice and easy questions.

From reading this whole thread, it seems to me that this seems to be the general consensus:

Art History: The Annotated Mona Lisa
Biology: Cliffs
Calculus (AB+BC): PR
Chemistry: PR
Comp. Gov: Ethel Woods (most recent one)
Computer Science: Be Prepared for the Computer Science Exam in Java
English Lang: Cliffs
English Lit: Cliffs
Environmental Science: Smarty Pant’s Guide (Barron’s for more thorough review)
European History: Modern European History, possibly REA as well
Human Geography: Barron’s
Macro/Micro: PR
Physics B: PR
Physics C (Mechanics): PR
Physics C (Electricity and Magnetism): PR
Psychology: Barron’s
Statistics: Barron’s
U.S. History: Combination of AMSCO, REA, Crash Course, but AMSCO seems to be best
U.S. Government and Politics: PR
World History: PR, no question about it

I’m taking AP US Gov , but self studying for AP US and AP World my senior year. I want a five on each.

For AP Gov: Princeton Review or Barrons?

AP US: Amsco? Is it offered in stores or do I have to get it online?

AP World: Princeton Review or Barrons?
