Consolidated book suggestions for AP

Zumdahl’s is very highly recommended, a good choice.

I’m looking to buy books for Comp. Science A and Human Geography. The 2010 editions of these books only come out in February, and I don’t feel I will have enough time to study (as I have other commitments) then.

Is the 2009 edition of these books (PR for Comp. Science, Barrons/PR for HG) good enough?

@ CanadaBoy: Yes, they will be fine. The edition of the book isn’t going to matter, the material is pretty much the same. The only circumstance when you need a new prep book edition is for exams that have changed significantly from the previous year.

Just making sure. For AP Government and Politics: Comparative, is this the book that’s being recommended?

http://www.amazon.com/AP-Comparative-Government-Politics-Study/dp/0974348171/ref=pd_cp_b_1

No, do to the change in the exam, the 4th edition is best.

You can also find it on Amazon: [Amazon.com: AP Comparative Government and Politics: a Study Guide, 4th edition (9780974348179): Ethel Wood: Books](http://www.amazon.com/AP-Comparative-Government-Politics-Study/dp/0974348171/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262557614&sr=1-1)

Yeah, I noticed after looking at the page a few times that there were better editions available. Just wanted to make sure it was the right book, even if it was the wrong edition. Thanks. :)

Wonder why that one used book costs more than twice the new one? Haha.

Just a note to people who are studying for APES: do not waste your money on the Kaplan or Barron test prep book! I used both last year and hardly anything from either book was on the test.

In my opinion these are the best books which have not yet been listed quite as often as others.

AP Art History: AP Art History with Art CD and TESTware (REA)
[REA Online - Making The World Smarter](<a href=“REA | AP Test Prep | CLEP Test Prep | Teacher Certification Prep | College Admission Test Prep”>REA | AP Test Prep | CLEP Test Prep | Teacher Certification Prep | College Admission Test Prep)

AP Calculus AB/BC: Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam by Mark Howell
[Amazon.com: Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam (9780972705554): Mark Howell, Martha Montgomery: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Be-Prepared-AP-Calculus-Exam/dp/0972705554/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263616875&sr=8-1)

I have APUSH and I am ordering AMSCO[from their site] and a REA book from amazon to help me prepare for the exams, which REA book should i get:

AP U.S. History Crash Course (REA) OR AP United States History (REA)

I have a few questions regarding these practice books:

Why does it seem that Kaplan is looked down upon for virtually every subject? While I haven’t taken any APs yet (I am a sophomore (c/o 2012)), I have 4 this year (French, Physics B, Calculus BC, Euro), and the Kaplan guides really help for Calculus and Physics. Am I missing something?

For AP Euro, it seems that the most highly recommended book is Modern World History. Has anyone heard anything about this book: [Amazon.com: AP Achiever (Advanced Placement* Exam Preparation Guide) for European History (College Test Prep) (9780073256726): Chris Freiler: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Achiever-Advanced-Placement-Preparation-European/dp/0073256722/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264320676&sr=8-1)
I saw this link on threads about AP Euro on this site, and many of the posters swore by this book.

Thanks!

I am looking to self study psychology and world history. I’m in euro and u.s right now and when i took the diagnostic on sparknotes i got a 3. Should I just use Princeton Review, or is it advisable to buy a textbook to? if so what textbook is good for world history. Also for psychology should I just use Princeton Review, or should i get a textbook too, and which textbook.

Since textbooks cover way more information and detail than is necessary for the AP exam, you’re probably best off being more efficient with just the review books which focus explicitly on the material needed for the AP exam.

Having a textbook to supplement isn’t a bad idea; it allows you to explore additional topics, and elaborate on ones that your AP review book vaguely covers… but it isn’t necessary.

Are people really that confident that the Barron’s book for AP Environmental Science is bad? I’m using it right now and it seems fine to me; 11 Chapters doesn’t seem too “superfluous” to me. In fact, from what I hear, the AP Environmental Science test is supposed to test you on a whole range of things that books like Smartypants don’t cover.

What are the best prep books for these two AP tests?

I am self studying AP Earth/Environ and I was wondering if it would be enough to just go through the Barron’s review book. I have taken Honors Earth Science, Honors Biology, and am in AP Biology.

Is it okay to purchase the 2007 edition of Barrons? Have there been any changes in the curriculum since then that I would need to purchase the 2009?

Thanks!

For AP Environmental Science: 5 steps to a 5, or Kaplan? Sorry those are the only ones available to me.

^I’m using Kaplan…

Yeah, I don’t get the deal with the Kaplan disdain, either. I launched a thread several months ago and only got non-sensical answers in return. I used it for Human Geo OVER the coveted “Barrons Guide” and got a 5! I also used their guides to help me study for APUSH and AP US Gov’t, and I earned the highest grade in APUSH by a lot and the second highest in AP US Gov’t. I also used the guides for ACT/SAT/PSAT, and subject tests.

Now, I’m using Kaplan guides for AP ES and AP Calc. They seen to explain everything very well and work great for me. So, yeah…

I guess we’re all different ???

For Environmental Science, the two books you should read are The Smartypants’ Guide to AP Enviro and the Kaplan prep book.

I’ve never seen Smartypants at Barnes & Noble, Premjeer… :/

Could someone give me the author to this book? thanx.
