Consolidated book suggestions for AP

Ok, most ppl say barrons is best for AP Human Geography. What about Princeton Review?

Arco, now Peterson’s, AP Calc test prep is recommended, but it’s SO expensive on Amazon:
[Amazon.com: Peterson’s Ap Calculus: Books](http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dus-stripbooks-tree&field-keywords=Peterson’s+Ap+Calculus&x=0&y=0)

$76 for a test prep book?? I know it has the CD, but that’s a lot for a test prep book…Am I missing something or is there a cheaper alternative? :(

books for AP Psych, Economics both micro and macro, Statistics, Calc BC and Physics B?

How good is Barron’s economic book compared to 5 steps to a 5? I got Barron’s and couldn’t find any reviews on it, and I heard 5 steps to a 5 is very effective.

I’m not going to post anything shockingly new, but

Last year:
AP Chem - class + Princeton Review
Score = 3, the book was ok; as someone said, it’s not a teaching book but a review book. I would buy PR again though.
AP Euro - class only
Score = 4, for those self-studying, I would recommend purchasing a used old textbook (college undergraduate-level) in addition to a review book; I relied solely on the textbook and prior knowledge from non-AP World History class and did fine

This year:
APES/environmental - According to my teacher, Barrons > PR, because PR doesn’t have a lot on global warming or specific statistics
AP Calc - PR is apparently better for BC than AB use; needs to be split more clearly between AB and BC topics instead of making the AB student skip around
APUSH - I got Barrons, and disliked it. The bulk of it is a series of sample essays and commentary, then a practice quiz at the end of each chapter, then a “stuff you should study” list for each chapter at the back. Not a “teaching book”; I was looking for fast review with actual info.
AP Eng - I didn’t get a book for that; I’m naturally fine with English and I have a good teacher. I guess it depends on the teacher you get, though. If you have AP history along with this class, the DBQs there may help prep for the synthesis essay here, and vice versa.

Don’t order the Peterson’s Calc book off Amazon. There are some wacko/scamming sellers. It sells for $14 plus shipping off the Peterson’s web site: [Peterson’s AP Calculus AB & BC - Peterson’s Online Bookstore](http://www.petersons.com/books/APCalculus.asp)

I’m self studying for psychology- Which one is better? Barron’s, PR, or 5 Steps to a 5?

I bought Barron’s for APES and I don’t like it… it’s too long and unlike other study guides, it expects you to know things from your class. Thus, it doesn’t include things that you “should know” and since I’m self-studying without a class… it’s kind of useless to me. I read up to chapter 7 and I have to say I hate this book. It’s so long. I just bought Smartypants off barnes and noble online, and hopefully it’s better.

IMO, PR for ES

acronyms FTW!

Books I’ve used:

AP Euro - Princeton Review and Modern European History
APUSH - Princeton Review
AP Eng Lang - Cliffs
AP Calc AB - Princeton Review
AP Stat - Barron’s and REA
AP Micro - 5 Steps to a 5
AP US Gov - Princeton Review

I used Amsco and Crash Course for APUSH. Amsco is great but Crash Course is much better these last 2 weeks because it is a fast, easy read.

My brother is using the new Crash Course book (because I like the APUSH book so much)for AP Euro and he says it is very helpful and is a very fast way to review.

okay im giving physics B.. so should i use barrons or PR?.. i do have background info on all of those topics.. i just need to refresh them

I used Princeton Review for APUSH, it worked out really well, if you read the review section very carefully and annotate, outline, etc. plus take their review tests.

This year I’m taking Chemistry AP and US Govt AP. I’m using Barron’s for AP Chemistry and it’s working out fine, and I have a combination of Princeton Review and Barron’s for US Govt…Princeton is very to the point and I like it. Barron’s gives more information, arguably too much information. I did the Princeton AP Govt review test and got 52/60…I took the Barron’s AP Govt review test and got a 46/60…the Barron’s was taken one week after the Princeton one. Therefore, I’ll be outlining Princeton’s and reading Barron’s carefully.

Is it worth spending 50$ on a PR or barron’s book(including shipping to india).. i cant seem to find it at any bookstore here

Here’s another one to add to the list:

AP Music Theory - Barron’s

It is the only recent AP prep book for AP Music Theory and was just released this February. It is excellent and has plenty of practice examples for dictations and harmonizing. I still, however, suggest taking the course if you have little to no experience in music (like I). This book is a great reference but the lengthy explanations may only be coherent to those who have prior knowledge of Music Theory. I’m enrolled in an AP Theory course and I tend to skim over most of the passages and go straight to the exercises.

@fantasticoheidi, I was just about to put that out there. I got my copy today, and I love it. All the topics I needed to review were easily accessible and very clearly explained. I have a whole new bout of confidence about this test!

How is Cliffs Notes for the AP Physics B Exam? I already have it, but Idk if it would be worth it to buy a new one. I’m kinda bad at physics, but I want to do well on the exam.

Just a quick question:

How are Ethel Wood’s Comparative Gov/Politics Study Guide questions and practice tests (both MC and FRQ) in comparison to the actual AP exam? Are they harder, easier, or about the same? Do they cover similar material and in a similar fashion?

Thanks.

If you have had a good class, PR is probably the best overall supplement/review (as well as practice tests, of course). I am using it for Chem, Calc and Bio, and all I needed was a review - PR is quick, to the point, and clear, with consolidating practice questions (which may seem a bit easy but once you get to the tougher one’s, you’ll have the foundation - this is better than doing unnecessarily difficult quizzes on Barron’s that wastes time, unless you are preparing like a year in advance). Barron’s also had a lot of unnecessary info.

Exception: AP Lit, definitely go with Cliffs.

wait so which book is better for economics 5 steps to a 5 or princeton
