Consolidated book suggestions for AP

Just one suggestion:

For US Gov: 5 Steps to a 5. This book literally saved my life. It’s like the test was written from it. Except the practice free response questions are not very good, but you can just use the official released ones on the collegeboard website, so no big deal.

Is there any review book for AP German?

Here is what I have gathered:

Art History - Barron’s, Annotated Mona Lisa
Biology - Cliffs
Calculus AB - Barron’s, PR
Calculus BC - Barron’s, PR
Chemistry - Barron’s, PR

Psycholgy - Barron’s

U.S. Government & Politics - REA Crash Course
U.S History - AMSCO
World History - PR

Are the REA books any good? My sister bought mostly REA and a few Princeton Review books when she was in high school, and I don’t feel like buying different books if I already have a review book for each AP I’m taking. She got 5’s on all her exams, so the books must have been helpful, I guess.

Princeton Review tends to be favorable for several AP tests. The suggestions are basically what the majority of AP testers find the best for review books. Every individual is different however, so what works for one may not work for another. I suggest looking through the books and checking the exam outlines on College Board to make sure the book covers all you need to know, while still being interesting enough for you to read it without doing superficial reading.

Order the Amsco online here: [Product Category](http://amsco.extendsales.com/AMSCOPUB/control/product?categoryId=19&catCode=MAH)

European History: Birdsall Vault’s Modern European History/Chris Freiler’s AP Achiever (definitely these two…Birdsall is thorough but a lot lengthier than AP Achiever, which was the best AP review book I ever bought, and probably why I got a 5; I’d advise against buying Barron’s, REA, or Princeton Review in this case). My friend really, really liked Cliff’s and she got a 5; to each their own?

Statistics: 5 steps to a 5 (Barron’s is all right, but 5 steps to a 5 is much better, especially if your teacher isn’t that great.)

English Language: Again, 5 steps to a 5 (better than PR); also look at past sample student essays (i.e. Gary Soto apple pie essay)

U.S. History: AMSCO or AP Achiever (much more concise)

Environmental Science: AP Achiever (though Barron’s, again, is all right); I tried using PR and I didn’t really like it.

Chinese: free online test (literally…)

Biology: I used Barron’s and Cliffs, which both were not enough for my class but way too much for the test.

Since I took biology, English, statistics, and U.S. history this year, I don’t know my scores, but for the rest I got 5’s. Hope this helps! Definitely the lesser-known AP Achiever for the win though.

Thus, the modified list:
Art History - Barron’s, Annotated Mona Lisa

Direct Hits should really be added to USH

^ Defiantly agree with that.

It seems as if the 5 steps to a 5 series is a good series. I am going to use all of their books for these aps
AP Biology-using cliffs as well
AP Environmental
AP Govt
AP Macro/Micro
AP Lit- Using Barrons aswell

Are these good books?

AP Bio def. Cliffs. Enviro, use PR, it is a very good book!

I’m not sure why everyone says Princeton Review for Economics, but I have both PR and Kaplan; I can definitely say that Kaplan is much better. It covers topics more thoroughly than PR does. Kaplan offers about 10 multiple choice and 1 free response at the end of each section, while PR offers about 4-5 MC only. Also, Kaplan includes a diagnostic test for both macro and micro which PR doesn’t. In the explanation of the practice tests, Kaplan does a better job. For example, if the answer to Question 1 is B, PR will only explain why B is correct, neglecting why the other choices are wrong. In contrast, Kaplan will not only explain why B is correct but also why A,C,D and E are incorrect individually.

Perhaps most people say PR is best is because they’ve never given Kaplan a chance since most of the other AP Kaplan books are useless.

You guys, what do you guys think is the best review book for AP Language???

combo of cliffs ap and 5 steps to a 5. i didn’t do good on the exam, but its either you are good at english or you are not, and i am not. these books give great pointers though

I dont know why people are recommending Barrons for chem… Horrible book with hundreds of mistakes. It over-reviews concepts that aren’t even tested on the AP exam, and the practice exams are overly difficult, not to mention the fact that many times their answers are wrong. I burned mine and the charred cover is currently framed hanging on my AP Chem teacher’s wall.

Also, the Ethel Woods is pretty good for Human Geo

Is CliffsAP good for getting an 800 on the SAT II Bio?

Barron’s is best. My friend used it and he’s certain he got a 5.

Is this a pretty good setup?

Psychology - Barron’s
US History - AMSCO
English Lang&Comp - Cliff

I’d appreciate any recommendations :D

Newton391244 - If you are talking about Physics B, I used Princeton Review and got a 5 on the AP and an 800 on the SAT II. I’m taking Physics C next year and I’m getting the Princeton Review book with the goal of a 5.

kamnn1 - For U.S. History, AMSCO might be a little much. If you are willing to read that, it’s fine. I mainly used Direct Hits in my studying along with intense work throughout the school year. I got a 5.

I’m taking Psychology next year and I’m getting Barron’s, so you are probably good  I’ve heard good things about the English Lang one as well, so you are good.

Here is what I’m thinking of getting for next year. I would appreciate any recommendations or help :)

Chemistry - Princeton Review
Psychology - Barron’s
Computer Science A (self-study) - Barron’s
Calculus BC - Princeton Review
Physics C (Mech and E&M) - Princeton Review

Thanks for the advice, burgerking316. I’m definitely willing to read through the AMSCO since I’ve heard good things about it; I was just making sure it is still one of the best. :D

kamn1, I used those and I got all 5’s so yup!
