Consolidated book suggestions for AP

Ok so what are the best review books for
AP Psychology ?
AP Physics C ?
AP Calculus BC ?
Thanks in advance :D

For AP Psych, definitely Barron’s. Just read that like 5 times and you’ll get a 5.
Could someone give me the best books for:

AP English Literature
AP Calculus AB
AP Statistics
AP Environmental Science
AP US Government
AP Macroeconomics

Thanks so much!

For APUSH, definitely get AMSCO (get it on their website for around $18-19–it’s like $40 on amazon) and Crash Course. Crash course is really really helpful for some quick studying and cramming and just plain reviewing, it gets all you need into a little book.

I’ve heard for Calc AB, Princeton is the best.

Not review books, but some free MC questions and solutions from a website called www.learnerator.com:

Did I take like the most unpopular AP class to take (AP physics C) everywhere I look there’s no opinions or sources recommending a book

Mark!!

But is there anyone who can recommand some books for AP French? Thx!!!

I searched other forums in CC and this is what I found that could possibly be helpful. Not one to ask since I’m taking Spanish.

"zoebakk

I replied on another thread, but I took the AP French exam this year and got a 4. I was the first person at my school to pass the exam, so my individual test prep was the factor, and not the teacher. I liked the Princeton review because it has CDs as well as written practice. All of the writing and speaking sections have helpful sample responses as well. Especially for self-studying I think the most important thing is to know exactly what you’re getting into before the exam, and the Princeton review gives you all the details, and the format. Also look at the samples from past exams on collegeboard"

Hope this helps!! : )

Can anybody recommend books for AP European History?? I was thinking about getting Crash Course, but I’m not sure. My teacher does not teach at all and the class is basically self-study. I really want a book that will help pass the tests he gives, but also prepare me for the AP test. If I have to use two books, then so be it, but I really need recommendations. Thanks!

Hi, what would be the best book for AP Calculus AB and Macro/Micro economics? I’m asking again because I don’t know if any of the suggestions might have changed over the years?

JadeMusic, I took the exam last yr. and my teacher didn’t teach really either. I used AP Achiever and Crash Course. AP Achiever is like a condensed textbook which is really helpful, I read it 3 weeks leading up to the exam, and I read Crash Course multiple times as it was really short and easy to read. If you read those two books, and practice your essays, you should be good.

My AP Chemistry teacher told us that the 2014 exam has a new format and has been made easier by giving us charts of rules instead of having to remember them now.

I have heard from some people that Princeton Review’s prep book is NOT updated to the new format, but Barron’s prep book is.

I personally like Princeton Review because I bought the SAT prep book and the AP Calculus one and I am accustomed to their way of explaining concepts. Barron’s I believe is harder than the actual exam so therefore the book over prepares you for it. As I said before, I prerfer Princeton Review’s books, but the AP Chemistry prep book is NOT updated to the new exam format. I am not sure which book to buy.

Hey guys, i have a 2008-2009 5 Steps to a 5 Book for Macro/Micro, would it still be okay to use, or would i need an updated version?

I’m self-studying Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Environmental Science, and both Physics Cs. Will I be making a mistake in getting just the Princeton Review for each if I want to get a 5?

Is the Crash Course any good for AP Bio, Micro, Calc AB, APUSH, or Lang? I have it for Enviro and APHuG.

Title says it all. If you were going to buy one review book for each of these AP exams, which would you get? (I posted in the Science sub-forum as well, but it looks like this is the better place to ask after all.)

Bio and Chem are classes with a good teacher; for psych, there’s no AP psych class, but there is a non-AP psych class that covers much of the same material. But that’s the one where the review book is most important for figuring out what may need to be self-studied.

I assume the newest editions are required for Bio and Chem since the tests have just changed, but for psych, maybe older editions would be fine?

Looking through recent posts it looks like

Psych: Barrons
Bio: Cliffs (is it updated for the new test?)
Chem: Barrons? Sounds like PR used to be better but is apparently not updated?

Thanks in advance!

For bio, Cliffs has been updated, yes. Since you have a good teacher though, I’d suggest maybe getting Barron’s instead (which has also been updated). Yes, get Barron’s for psych; as for chem, I’m sorry to say I have no idea what with the curriculum change and all. :frowning: sorry!

Thanks Trecriture. Why do you recommend Barron’s instead of Cliffs for Bio? It seems like “everyone” recommends Cliffs.

Oh haha that was for the old version of the exam, pre-2013. IMO Cliffs 4th edition was dry and didn’t put enough emphasis on the labs (which ended up being a very large portion of the exam compared to previous years), and I’m wishing I’d used Barron’s instead (got a 4, which still makes me mad, lol). Plus the current AP Bio teacher at my school also recommended Barron’s over Cliffs. Hope this helps! :)

@ThatMathySciGirl - I know Crash Course is great for APUSH (I have it). I’m not sure about the rest though.

Thanks @Trecriture. Very helpful!
