Consolidated book suggestions for AP

AP Gov – Crash Course; pity I can’t find it anymore.

AP Calc – Barron’s has a ton of practice but was A LOT harder than the real test I took today. That being said, I think I probably got 0-3 wrong on the MC.

euro - cc + meh/ap achiever
psych - barrons
us history- crash course
chem - PR

Check the reviews on these books at the site.

It seems like Princeton Review has updated their AP Chem review book for 2014. How does the new one compare?

For those who got a 5 on one of these exams.. which prep book did you use and how useful would you say they were?

AP Calculus BC

AP World History

AP Biology

AP Macroeconomics

The best book for AP World History is Ethel Wood’s AP World History: An Essential Coursebook. I also tried to use the Princeton review book, but the Essential Coursebook is far easier to carry around and is more concise. I recommend using the Crash Course book in addition to review by era featured on the exam. The course book was far more useful to studying for tests throughout the year, and for the AP test.

John Green’s videos can also be used in conjunction with these other books, but the videos should not be your only study aid. While a couple of questions on the exam came straight out of his videos, they are filled with jokes which diminishes the quality of the overall information. The videos are easy to watch and are able to keep your attention, which is a plus.

Anyone have suggestions for self-studying the new AP Physics 1 course? Should I just get an AP Physics B book?

Can I get some help please? (Preferably from people who got 5s on these exams)
AP Statistics - I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get whatever the most recent Barron’s book is. Does anyone know which one that is?
AP US History - I heard there is a new exam this upcoming year. Does anyone have any idea which book would probably be the most helpful though? Which books are updated anyway?
AP Chemistry - Someone who got a 5 on the new exam last year…which book did you use?
AP English Language - I have no idea with this one. Someone who got a 5 please help me out, this is my weakest subject.

PR for Physics!

PhilipL … Barrons for Chemistry and better use a textbook for US History.. better than prep books for History subjects.

@PhilipL‌

APUSH- Get the AMSCO Book, it’s incredibly good. Also, ignore the negative reviews, all of them are from gun nuts who are upset about a misleading rewording of the second amendment (which has been corrected). I got a 4 but I only got a couple chapters in before other exams diverted my attention. The bit I did read was very useful and most other CCers will recommend this book I believe.

AP Chem- none of the books are really great for the new format. Youtube has the best resources. Bozeman science has videos that are taken directly from the curriculum. Additionally, I found Khan academy very helpful for understanding harder concepts like titration and electrochem. Also get the official practice exam (from your teacher if they’ll let you have one…or I or other CCers can send you a copy). It’s invaluable for tying the whole chemistry world together. Got a 5.

Lang- there’s not that much you can do to prep for this course. The best thing you can do is write essays from the released exams and really focus on using sophisticated language. There also appears to be a limited pool of works that are drawn on for the MC. I got saved on the exam by coming across a text I had read before with 5 minutes to go. The best thing you can do is read a lot of short works that are of a high literary quality (we used shea’s “the language of composition” and McGraw Hill in class) and answer accompanying questions. Also, know how to recognize rhetoric and satire and any other words used when analyzing literature (fallacies, figurative language, etc). Got a 5.

Also, for the APUSH exam revision, I believe that the test is becoming more quote-analysis based, but the basic content is still similar, so I’m assuming that the book is still relevant.

Never took stat, can’t help you there- sorry

If anyone has suggestions for my AP books next year, they would be greatly appreciated-

AP Music Theory- planning to get barrons 2E, self studying in fall w/ teacher if that matters
AP Bio
AP Lit
AP US Gov

Hey guys  If any of you have any experience with review material for…

AP French
AP Physics
AP Calc AB
AP Lit
AP Psych
AP US GOV

then it’d be awesome to hear your views.

oh..and my experience w/ ap books

5 steps to a 5 chem - very bad (although it was a reformatted test so the new versions might be good)
princeton apush - very good

Hey guys! Any advice for the following AP Classes?
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics C
AP Lit
AP Government
AP Macroeconomics

@Andizam, the 5 Steps to a 5 books for both Government and Macroeconomics are fantastic and do a great job of reviewing material, along with some in-depth practice tests. “How To Read Literature Like A Professor” is excellent for English Lit, as well.

Could someone please recommend me a good study/review book for AP Art History’s artwork memorization/study portion? The whole “memorize 500+ works of art” area of the course? I can only get so much out of staring at a painting and going “oh…what was that called again?”

Strickland’s The Annotated Mona Lisa or wait until the following year when it will only be 250 works of art.

@skieurope I saw someone in another thread recommend The Annotated Mona Lisa, so I guess that’s the one I’m going with. Already reserved on eBay.

Sadly, this is my senior year, so AP Art History is now or never. I think I can handle 500 works of art.

Any help or suggestions for this list would be greatly appreciated!

AP US History
AP US Government
AP Calculus BC
AP English Lang
AP Physics 1
AP Latin
AP Human Geography

Hi, I’m aiming to get 5s on my ap exams next year. STatistics, Calculus BC, psychology, and biology. I’m self studying biology, so I will need the most help on that. Please tell me what books are actually 5-material for these subjects.
Thanks.

@Aeroastro14: There aren’t really many textbooks for English Lang, per say, so I’d say Barron’s would do best as a review book.

As for AP US History, American Pageant and AMSCO are gods among men.

And with US Government, 5 Steps to a 5 (2014-2015) rocks at reviewing.
