Consolidating CC info- will you share??

I was chatting backchannel with one of the well-respected CC posters. We lamented about how hard it was, at our age, to keep up with the details of who went to which school, whose kids are applying, or attend which schools, who lives where, who is a lawyer, real estate agent, teacher, etc. I have begun to keep a list at my computer station so I can keep up  Many of us have shared these details on different threads, such as the recent “did you meet in college” thread, or the “where are you all from” thread of a few weeks ago. I imagine there may have beem other threads that have now faded to the back pages.

Carolyn also pointed out that there have been many new members joining CC in the past few months who might also not know the “cast of characters”. (my term, not hers, and meant with endearment  )

Would you be willing to consolidate that information that you are comfortable sharing into one place, so that we can remember this as people post? It makes it easier to follow when you know that person X is a journalist living in DC, who went to NYU and their D is applying to Wash-U married to a professor at Vanderbilt who attended U of Mich.(I made this up).

So ok-- I’ll go first

self: undergrad-Vassar; grad school- U of Fla. Work in the medical/mental health field. I grew up in the NYC suburbs.

hubby: undergrad UW- Madison; grad -Air Force Institute of Technology and Georgia State U (started in electrical engineering, switched to Business Information Systems and finished at night when I lured him out of the military and into married life). Works as an IT manager for a large company. He grew up overseas (Okinawa).

We live in the suburbs of large SE City. Married 20 yrs. Older s. is a freshman at Rice. Younger son is a HS freshman in private school.

I look forward to hearing from more of you  It sure would help.

c’mon, somebody???

People here are pretty private about personal details for fear of being “revealed”. Dropping a detail here or there is ok, as it is unlikely that anyone will take the time to piece it all together. But to lump it all in one place is too risky.

Me: No college. I got pregnant the summer after HS and deferred an acceptance to a wonderful school in favor of working to raise a new baby by myself. I was lucky enough to soon land a job in a field that was growing rapidly: IT (I became a computer geek before the internet and sold some of the first “websites” when my clients swore it was just a fad). I still work in the field…and now “make the internet work” (17 years later - it’s no longer a fad). My teen love-child is headed to UPenn in the fall…and is making me more proud than I could have ever imagined.

momsdream–I didn’t know the whole background. You are absolutely the COOLEST.

Thanks Patient. I don’t recommend it! But, in retrospect, it was (and still is) quite the experience! I wouldn’ t trade it for anything…seriously. God gave me a really wonderful, easy kid for a reason…I wasn’t prepared for anything more.

I’ll go:

me: live in So. California beach town, work as a middle school teacher, former journalist, grad. of UCSB (BA) and CSU Northridge (MA plus teaching cred.)

H: works in local government; grad of Cal State Long Beach and CSUN (masters).

S: Senior at public h.s. Political junkie. Accepted EA at Chicago, waiting on other apps and merit aid, but probably will attend.

D: Freshman at same public h.s. Swimmer. Wants to stay in Calif. for college. Currently going through the “my parents are the biggest dorks in the world and nobody understands me” stage (Her eyes might be permanently rolled back in her head, I don’t know, I’ve stopped looking.)

Dogs: St. Bernard and an ancient collie with a bladder problem.
Cats: Four… yeah, I know.

jym626-

Great idea!

Me: Had full ride to University of Michigan back in 1973 but declined because I wanted to “get on with my life” (groan). Of course, never had time to go since then…I keep telling my daughter wherever she goes, I’ll apply too  (Probably wouldn’t be accepted now.) Self-employed for 23 years. I do sales and marketing for an internet-based residential architectural and interior design library of model homes across the U.S.

Husband: No college either. Self-employed for 25 years as a computer programmer (self-taught).

Dogs–three, two black labs and one ??? some sort of spaniel/collie mix

Momsdream-
You should be quite proud of yourself and your son/dau (?)! I am most impressed!

And Momof2 inCA- I can commiserate about the doggie with a bladder problem :frowning: Our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is in congestive heart failure, and is on a boatload of meds, including many diuretics. As such, he has let us know we will be purchasing new rugs and carpets  He now wears either a doggie diaper or a bellyband, neither of which are too effective… But we love him none the less. I think my s in college misses the dog more than he misses us.

Thank you everyone for sharing here. It makes it a lot easier to keep up.

Dog- 10 + yr old black lab- thinks shes three for 10 hours out of the day- sleeps the rest of the time-

H-urban high school in our area- works on military end of aircraft manufacturer- built prototype of 777, special military planes etc.
me- dropped out of local suburban highschool, took GED attended community college as well as cosmetology school and massage school. Love to still be doing massage, but very physical job and now doing more volunteer work in schools including education lobbying

One more thing to add for me (especially these next few weeks): A Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Yeah, I know they looked terrible against the Jets last week even though they managed to win (only because of two missed Jets FGs). But I hope they go … all … the … way!

digmedia-
You went to GA Tech-- if the Falcons beat the Eagles and end up playing Pittsburgh in the Superbowl, will you be at all conflicted???

Not in the least. A quick story about why I am a Steelers fan: In the Seventies, I moved to Pittsburgh (in a van with all my stuff) from Atlanta. It was late January and I got caught in a snowstorm in Lexington, Kentucky. They closed the roads and I had to stay in a motel. The Superbowl was on that evening and I watched Pittsburgh win their very first Superbowl (btw, that was followed by three more in the next five years). The next day the roads were open, so I drove to Pittsburgh.

As I entered the city, I noticed the streets were lined with people, and as I approached in my van, everyone started cheering!! What a welcome to a city!! Then i noticed I was just slightly ahead of the bus bringing the Steelers from the airport into the city. I know the cheering was for them, but I could pretend it was also welcoming me into the city.

So I HAVE to be a Steelers fan.

Falcons? Is that a football team?
