Contacting a University & Wait Times

Hey guys,

I have an interesting situation. The university that I will be attending (the University of Kansas) offers in-state tuition to members of the military & their dependents. As expected, while going through the application process I was assessed as out-of-state for residency purposes due to the fact that I am indeed not from the state my university is. I contacted the university and provided military orders as required, and was told that my account would be updated.

Well, I was advised by family and friends not to bother the university too much, so I waited. A month went by and nothing changed, and then I received an email stating I did not provide necessary documentation and that I would now have to appeal my status. I got to the bottom of the issue and provided additional documents specified, was told I did not actually have to appeal my status, and that again, my status would be updated.

It has been a week since this second exchange and nothing (my residency status or scholarships) has been changed in the system. When should I follow up again about this? I don’t want to bug the registrar unnecessarily but I also don’t want to lose this opportunity.

Thanks everyone!

Call and speak to someone tomorrow.

Do you think a week is an acceptable amount of time to have waited before contacting?

We’ll…maybe wit until Wednesday. It just check to be sure all of your documents are in order. Nothing wrong with that.

Don’t worry. You will not be billed for at least a couple more months. They will update the CoA and financial aid package accordingly throughout the summer.

I’d stay on it. The summer before my daughter’s freshman year, I waited for certain scholarships to be posted and other things. I think I called them every day in July to get something fixed, a scholarship found, information I needed to send to a scholarship (the bill) posted. There were more than a few mistakes because it turned out she had two files and two student numbers, so it wasn’t just my imagination that everything had to be done several times.

You are paying to bother them. Stay on it.
