thanks dallas.
have looked there already - trying to get a sense of the class itself the course description is fuzzy.
also can’t really tell if it counts as a GCR lab science.

S took it & it does count as a GCR. Don’t know who he had for it, but it wasn’t difficult. If S were more forthcoming with info, I might have more to share with you. He’s not home & doesn’t give more than 1 or 2 word responses to emailed questions, so I’m not sure asking him about it would really help.

It’s a really great non-science intensive class. You get to understand a lot of interesting and relevant topics in Chemistry. Topics range from how drugs and viruses work to how the plastic used in plastics bags are made. Interesting discussions such as paper vs plastic (the answer, btw, is that they are both equally bad for the environment).

Also has a lab period where you do interesting experiments relating to the class lectures.

I’m registered for this class as well! MW at 2:20 with Zysimilich (sp?) Definitely the best thing for me since I was never a science person in high school, and REALLY struggled with biology/chemistry. From what I hear on ratemyprofessor, the professors who teach this class know that students aren’t even remotely interested in science so they go easy on the harder subjects (:

Only problem for me is that my lab section is from 8:00 until 9:50 at nighttt.

I have heard that the Chem dept however, has gotten tougher. So, for those who have taken this course last semester, is that true, as compared to other semesters?
Also, I would fonf out how you really fet tested on exams that wouldn’t have formulas? anyone has those answerss, please share. My sister took it a long time ago and she sais it was easy, but that was in 2007. How is Zyaimilich compared to the other one?, etc

It’s not a cake walk. Not the hardest class ever, but not easy. If you’re not into science, it can be a challenge. It requires a lab, and, in general, if it’s not a required class, don’t take it. If it’s required, take it… but don’t expect it to be a slacker “this is water, this is air” b.s. class. It requires a fairly good amount of studying, and memorizing.
