I’m finishing my minor one quarter ahead of schedule but technically requested financial aid up until the end of Winter quarter of 2012. My question is if I DON’T petition for graduation can I use the remaining funds to take one last quarter? I’m a Japanese Studies minor and feel like I’d benefit from one more quarter and so I’m curious whether this is possible or not.

Are you finished with your major? Once you have the credits required for your major, you are no longer eligible for certain federal aid (such as the Pell). It does not matter whether you submit your graduation papers or not.

Yes, I finished my major courses during the summer and am now finishing up with my minor this quarter. So then regardless of whether I file for graduation or not I would not receive the aid?

No I don’t think that’s how it works. As long as you are taking classes to fulfill any requirement (GE’s, major, minor, units, college requirements,…) then you will get your financial aid.

So even if I’m technically done w/both my major and minor I’d still get the aid? I wasn’t expecting to finish early so I had already requested financial aid until next quarter. I remember hearing someone say that I could use it as long as I don’t actually petition for graduation but I want to make sure before registration for winter starts.
