Controversial topic?

If you could spend a half hour talking with a significant figure, living or dead, from the world of politics, science, or the arts, who would that person be, and what would you talk about?

I was first thinking Richard Dawkins. I agree with him on most things but I would also talk about my disagreements in the essay. However, he is an atheist, as am I, which is not a very popular view. I thought maybe I should make the essay pro-science so it doesn’t make me sound like a harsh critic of religion, which I do not think I am.

or

I could go with Issac Asimov, who was more pro-science than anti-religion. He is also dead, and more popular than Dawkins, which would make me less likely to run into controversy.

or

Should I forgo this question completely and pick a safer one?

This is for Georgia Tech if that makes a difference.

I can’t speak for Georgia Tech or anything, but I think you should go with whoever you feel more passionate about. I personally believe in intelligent design, but if you agree with Dawkins and want to talk about him, then I think you should write about him instead. Especially if his views reflect your personal views more accurately.

However, I think a safer stance is to go with pro-science rather than anti-religion; I don’t think science and religion are mutually exclusive.

Yeah, I’ll definitely be pro-science, and I think I’ll have more to talk about with Dawkins as I also disagree with him on some things.
