If your parents are paying, why not take both? You don’t have to send your scores when you take the tests. You lose out on the freebies when you do that, but then you can decide which test results to send.
@NorthernMom61 I do have to send my scores when i take the tests. I’ve said multiple times that cornell does not participate in score choice.
@Gatortristan Sorry missed that part about Cornell and score choice. How did you do on your Junior year PSAT? That was a pretty reliable predictor of SAT performance for my daughter. Sometimes it is hard to tell how you will do from practice tests.
@NorthernMom61 It’s okay haha and i got a 1920 on my junior past but i scored a few points higher on my practice test. That was after months of studying. my mock act was a 30 w/o any prep and i like the test more.
Yeah, I get it, each test has its pros and cons. My daughter did both. She took the ACT sophomore year just to check it out, and her score was really good, however, our mistake was not having her retake it at the end of Junior or very beginning of Senior year because it might have gone up even more. We weren’t aware just how much that would make a difference seeking merit scholarships, though at the 11th hour (mid April) a full tuition award did finally come through. Good luck to you.
Cornell is probably talking about SAT II Subject tests AND ACT. That may have confused your parents. Every college says they will accept either ACT ir SAT I, most superscore (so they want all of your tests) or take the better of ACT or SAT. You can find this information in the admission FAQ’s.
The only reason to take the SAT if you already have a great ACT score is if you scored well enough on your PSAT for NMSF.
Yeah, that’s true. You will need to take the SAT II along with the ACT. Schools accept either the SAT or ACT with the same judgement. I hope your parents can change their minds.
D14 is finishing her freshman year at Cornell University. She took ACT, then 2 SAT subject tests. Obviously that worked for her to be accepted.
This is directly from the Cornell site under “Admission Requirements/Standardized Test Scores”. Their only requirement is that if you take the SAT Reasoning Test more than once, ALL scores must be sent. Note the word EITHER in the first sentence. It may be helpful to pull up the website with this info on it and show it to your parents.
“You must submit your scores for either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT with Writing. Some of our undergraduate colleges/schools also have specific requirements for the SAT Subject Tests. Review the Freshman Admission Requirements Chart to see what’s required. It’s your responsibility to make sure that you have taken the right Subject Tests and have the scores officially reported to Cornell from the testing agency by our application deadline. Note that Cornell requires students to submit all scores from SAT tests taken and does not participate in the College Board’s Score Choice.”
I would suggest signing up for SAT testing date to take 2 subject tests since they will most likely be required.
@4kids2graduate Signing up for math 2/history/bio m for october. I’ll def. show them that from their website but my last last shot is for someone actually at cornell when i go visit in 2 weeks to tell them. thanks again!
At Cornell you apply to a particular college within the university…each has a different requirement related to SAT subject tests. Here is link with specifics…also something concrete to show your parents.

@4kids2graduate I’m applying to HumanEc. They don’t require them but I’m sending them anyways because i need them for EA schools.
