Every school that I have look at the calendar for has one of these. What exactly is it and what do we wear?

For my school you can wear whatever as long as it’s within dress code bounds

Convocation at my school happens before every formal dinner on Thursday. It involves the whole school marching down to the theater in formal attire and sitting through a presentation of some sort for 30-90 minutes (though it’s usually about 40 on the average night). The presentation is usually a distinguished speaker such as a professor, author, high ranking government official (foreign or domestic), Corporate CEO (such as that of Google or something), etc. Other nights it may be a student performance such as a play (which may go both before and after dinner), dance recital, musical performance, cultural celebration piece, etc. again.

TL;DR A presentation that one sits through typically in formal attire once or twice a week. Longer than an assembly, shorter than a ceremony.
