Cool/hot gifts this holiday season

We all loved what we got this holiday. The most welcomed gift this year was the Jawbone Jambox speaker. It is small enough to be put in a backpack, can be charged for use up to 10 hours, with bluetooth, and it rocks.

What are some great gifts you got this year?

I got a ton of stuff from various people… 32 gb nexus 7 is pretty cool but what I really like is the case that I was given to put it in - it has a built in keyboard that plugs into the little usb part! it works perfectly and has a stand on the back which stands it up like a small laptop.

I also got a new trent rechargable battery pack which is pretty slick… you charge it up and then you can use it to charge your devices while you’re on the go… like your cell phone or ipod or whatever.

I also got a Keurig and just enjoyed my first item from it!

fendergirl, Ditto on the Nexus 7 (for niece and nephew) and the Keurig (for me). I’m kind of disappointed with the coffee temp. on the Keurig, though. It is set at 192 degrees but it is actually hovering around 170. Less than a year ago I returned one to Costco with this same issue.

A new iPad.

The biggest hit this year at our house were the Hexbugs in the stockings. Sons and husband spent hours playing with them this morning before we ever opened any other presents.

My mother got an iPad, now she is posting all over our family FB. A little bit of power is dangerous.

My son gave me a box full of index cards. Each card had one word on the front, and then you turned it over for a surprise.

Several cards that said “me!” and had photos of him on the back.

A card that said “game” and on the back had the directions “roll a die, if you get an odd number I’ll go with you to see Les Miserables without complaining. If you roll an even number I’ll go too!”

A card that said “pancakes” and had a promise to accompany me to the pancake house for brunch some Sunday morning. (This is a running joke since every few weeks we plan to go, and then come Sunday morning he tells me he’s too tired and goes back to sleep).

Several cards that said “money” and had various coins or bills taped to the back".

There were probably 20 cards in all, and they each had me laughing.

CuriousJane, what a sweet gift!

I got an iPhone5. I’m totally non-techy and keep messing it up. Sometimes I can access my phone, sometimes the internet, sometimes my email, but never all at the same sitting. I really need someone to help me get this thing going because right now, I can’t understand why everyone loves it.

CuriousJane, what a sweet son you have!!!

Our family is big on board games. Pandemic was the hit of the day. Lololu, I will look up Hexbugs!

The nicest thing was having family together. We hadn’t celebrated a Christmas with my BIL for 17 years.

DS got an iPhone 5 as well. This is his first smartphone. He used iPad given by school before though. He did not like it because he liked his MBP better. So he is not totally ignorant about iOS Appleware.

He is not techy but is better than me. I heard he had entered his contacts by looking at the saved info from his dumb phone, had established VPN connqection to his school and bought a simplified version of an electronic. Music application called Figure and showed us his quick and dirty “composition” (somehow it reminds me of loops he played on Acid in his freshman year in high school than Reason he played in college. I knew neither.)

My fiance and I got Monty Python Fluxx from his mother. That game is FUN.

The unexpected gift that were thrilled with was Pyrex baking pans with storage lids from my future mother-in-law. And my mother got us a Farberware cookware set. We have a much better equipped kitchen now and we couldn’t be more pleased.

The gift that possibly went over the best was a gift set of hot sauces for my fiance’s brother, who eats hot sauce on everything. We saw it in the store and it was one of those moments of giftspiration. He spent the whole evening admiring it.

Definitely the best gift was the one that curiousjane received!

^^ I totally agree. Our kids used to do that when they were little – little coupon booklets for things like breakfast in bed. Best. Gift. Ever.

Our best gift was having our S home from college and our D, a first year resident, have the day off. We all slept late, opened stockings, had brunch, and exchanged gifts. We enjoyed our day together. And H made a great dinner. :)
