Cooper Union for Graphic Design

<p>love
I just gotten to see the video in the link
aww Christian Hincapie, the kid who sharpie-ed the word “activate” on the Viagra bottle for their year’s hometest one-word prompt “ACTIVATE” (and I suspect that’s what gotten him in)

  • is already in his third year?
    I feel old.
I was bit worried about his works shown in the last years’ show, like he’d lost steam.
well he is alive and well… thou the video is kind of bad.
stay safe and warm, kids, don’t go the way of the "Occupy…</p>

<p>didn’t have time to read but did take a loo at the picture at the top of the page.
[First</a> retrospective of Maurizio Cattelan opens at the Guggenheim Museum in New York](<a href=“http://www.artdaily.org/index.asp?int_sec=2&int_new=51568]First”>http://www.artdaily.org/index.asp?int_sec=2&int_new=51568)</p>

<p>It is horrible! I can not call that art. I am hoping my D did go that far and it is so evil.</p>

<p>I’m not sure I’d describe it as evil Love Blue but to be honest, perhaps this is just a sign of my advancing age, but I’ve been finding a lot of in-your-face nudity in art very boring and juvenile lately, not at all shocking which is probably what the artist intends. It’s all a big yawn, oh my, I must be getting old.
and jaded
and now it’s off to bed because it’s almost 9pm and past my bedtime.</p>

<p>and your back must be killing you? poor old smarty…
remember, it is retrospective show, his first one at that. supposed to be junky, for that’s all he’s been doing.</p>

<p>dear dear love
no worry, that’s why it’s in Guggenheim, not in the Met.
thou I can see some Cooper kids would do this sort of “art”, from the look of their shows (and what’s in the dumpsters)</p>

I don’t know how that work but you can experience the exhibition from elsewhere.
try them try them and you see I say</p>

<p>I am going to get a iphone 4s this week, I am in waiting list for that. maybe I will try after I got it.</p>

<p>“and your back must be killing you?”
How did you know???</p>

<p>oh noooooooooooooooooooooo
love is going to the darkside (iphone Sith)
we will never see her again…
come back switters! may the force be with you!!</p>

<p>got my phone today!
bears: I will be around. I will miss many of you if I didn’t come back here.</p>

<p>Loveblue, enjoy your new phone! My older daughter really needed a new phone so she pre-ordered it through Verizon and has been very happy with it.</p>

<p>What does it do with Cooper?
well, they were there but I did not check to see how they are doing, for there are Friday in-house reviews that most local to tri-sate kids would be able to attend.
NYC event is hosted my MICA this year. of course I asked why.
By the way, MICA reps are always the most friendly, smiley, civil and normal looking people.
“no one else wanted to host it”
It is so very NYC attitude - Don’t call us we call you (often never happens)
How could the art capital city of the world would not host UG portfolio day? (Graduate day was hosted by Parsons.)
MICA has all the right to take advantage of the events but the longest lined school was the usual (guess where)
what surprising was SMFA’s effort. of course I asked why.
“the Boston and Hartford days were wrecked by snow!! now or never!”</p>

<p>The place allocated for the event is “Hall 1B”, smallish basement of northern end of the gigantic convention center, all bare concrete and bunker like structure. no art-y charm there at all. said, compere to Boston venue awful to say the least, but they are so very enthusiastic.
Kids are kids, bittersweet memories of four and plus years came back to me.
All different skill levels and attitude, younger sibling carrying sister’s canvas proudly, Tiger mom balancing three folders and coats scarves and lunch pail.
Good thing about done in convention center is, there are lots of other stuff going on the same day, like, this restaurant/hotel show, one vendor put out stands with million tote bags with their logo on it in the hallway, which was on the entrance to the basement where NPD was held.
“Front of the House room 300 by FOH” screen printed image of plate and silverware combined logo on neon green tyvek bags are free for all to take.
NPD kids are carrying catalogs they collected in it, doing free advertisement for the firm.
It also hold so many more people in one place all at once. I don’t have to feel guilty about filling up one spot because there is no line whatso ever to get in.
I talked with people I wanted to talk and was done in about an hour.
It is our past, now. I am so done.
These kids, brimmed with hope, some more talented some more hard working, all are here for somewhat common goals but will take all different path that involve curves and bumps: acceptance, rejection, awards, scholarships, loans, admit-deny. decision making.
I would do it again anytime, it was painful, but oh so much of excitement.
Well, I was told often enough it is time to get my own life.
I am gonna do that, OK OK OK
Good luck kids! wherever you ended up going, keep making art that makes world go around.
Let’s all thank MICA for volunteering to host it.</p>

<p>Reading this post makes all the old memory came back!
Actually I still miss the old time, it is very hard to get our own life. Maybe when they really get mature but when?</p>

<p>Those cable tie-d lampposts are STILL there.
ref. page 31 post#458
I just noticed something I haven’t seen
some of the posts had little sign attached, red construction paper printout in a plastic sleeve glued onto the base.
which reads
" The Animus Arts Collective Presents
Flaming Cactus
in collaboration with the dpt. of transportation’s
Summer Streets and the Figment Project"</p>

<p>Gawk! it wasn’t guerrilla, but legit commissioned art!!
The city have taken down lovely knitted “sweater” someone put on the turning cube sculpture in the island of Astor place in like, matter of a day.
This (now more so, not that it was any that great to begin with) eyesore “summer cactus” would stay atop and keep correcting dirt and grime till who knows when.
the life size silver (Silver Surfer-sh shining silver)Andy Warhol carrying shopping bag and camera, also of some summer project is overstaying near Union Sq.
I’d wonder now, the city is so very broke and no manpower to put things away as scheduled?
Or
this is yet another dummy BearsandDogspeculation!?!?!?</p>

<p>PS
good news
<a href=“HugeDomains.com”>HugeDomains.com;
lookee love, now I can show you what it’s ^like!</p>

<p>from today’s e-news

<p>save the cooper! 23,700 plus views! bump!!
The silver Andy Warhol on the corner of Union Sq. is rightfully staying as planed.
There is a panel that explaining everything on the back of nearby phone booth where usually hotdog vendor or people meeting up with someone would stationed against and usually obscured from the pubic view.
It says</p>

<p>On view through May 13, 2012
Bob Pruitt
The Andy Monument</p>

<p>Union Square is one of New York City’s most active social, cultural, and commercial centers.
It is home to many well known monuments, including statues of George Washington and Mahatma Gandhi.
From 1968 to 1984 it was the location of Warhol’s Factory, where he and his collaborators reinvented the conventional artist’s studio, producing silkscreen paintings, films, music, books, magazines and more.
With his Union Square Factory as a creative hub, Warhol became synonymous with the Downtown art Scene.
Inspired by Warhol’s art and life, Rob Pruitt(b.1964 Washington DC)created The Andy Monument as tribute to the late artist.
It stands on the street corner, just as Warhol did when he signed and gave away copies of Interview magazine.
Pruitt’s sculpture adapts and transforms the familiar tradition of classical statuary.
The figure is based on a combination of digital scanning of a life model and hand sculping, its surface finished in chrome, mounted on a concrete pedestal.
It depicts Warhol as a ghostly silver presence, a potent cultural force as both artist and self-created myth.
As Rob Pruitt observes, unlike so many other artists and performers and people who don’t fit in because they’re gay or otherwise different, Andy moved here to become who he was, to fulfill his dreams and make it big. He still represents that courage and that possibility. That’s why I came to New York, and that’s what my Andy Monument is about.
[Rob</a> Pruitt: The Andy Monument](<a href=“http://www.publicartfund.org/robpruitt/]Rob”>http://www.publicartfund.org/robpruitt/)
^here, you can see it. by Public Art Fund </p>

<p>that’s all cool but that concrete pedestal and lettering on it are super ugly… it reminded me of my family lot tombstone back in 70s Japan.
and there is this seam. whatever big that molded had to be put together to make it whole. It is clever that seams are on the seam of Andy’s jacket sleeve seams. (and jeans’ seams) but Andy’s hand got continued marked seam from the sleeve!!
just a little sanding or chipping off could have done the trick, no?
Of course I can’t do anything this artist is capable of doing.
and that’s why I am nitpicking.
If that is something weird-er, like saggy elephant on the other side of the square, it will go un-criticized.
[Giant</a> Bronze Elephant Stands Upside Down in Union Square - WNYC Culture](<a href=“WNYC | New York Public Radio, Podcasts, Live Streaming Radio, News”>WNYC | New York Public Radio, Podcasts, Live Streaming Radio, News)
Or if it was fenced in like Gandhi, people would venture in to give flower lei out of respect.
<a href=“http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_42vIdSLMzRM/TLkYzp_t6KI/AAAAAAAAA4E/Gn-rKLibABM/s1600/P1090540.JPG[/url]”>http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_42vIdSLMzRM/TLkYzp_t6KI/AAAAAAAAA4E/Gn-rKLibABM/s1600/P1090540.JPG&lt;/a&gt;
Andy is very good meeting spot and nice attraction as a backdrop for street performers, tho. It is so shiny and can’t miss it.</p>

<p>I have been to union square but didn’t pay attention to these. It is interesting and I will find them nxt time when I visit thee</p>

<p>come come!!
I and monster suits await!</p>

<p>Hello 23,890 something views.
Strand books is this.
[Strand</a> Book Store: New, Used, Rare and Out-of-Print Books](<a href=“Strand Book Store”>http://www.strandbooks.com/)
unlike StMarks books, I do spend money here occasionally.
There is “rare book” section third floor, often host events. I take notes on announcement sign on the street and meant to go, then distracted, forget, but this time I made it.
Francesco Clemente speak about his new book with Salman Rushdie.
[Strand</a> Books](<a href=“Strand Book Store”>Strand Book Store)
However you couldn’t just go there, you got have to buy a book or buy $10 minimum gift card conveniently taking credit card at the spot.
I was early and took second row seat (first rows are “reserved”)
Neat thing is, unlike giant B&N, there is no stage door. only one way in to the place, means, Francesco bigshot Clemente and Salman bigshot Rushdie had to come in the same way and had to wait there ( in front of us lowly commoners) til the time comes.
They are not exactly good looking or hot or anything.
mid-late 60s. dark well fitted layers of clothing but tubby stomach.
Sir Rushdie has hooded small but sharp eyes somehow you feel like you are being watched (no, you aren’t) Francesco had shoes laced but bunched up on sides instead of tied together, and tongue parts are sticking upward ostensibly, so it must be hi-design as such.
I pulled all nighter the night before and it was raining, soggy, wet, then the room was dry, warm and cozy.
You can laugh but I must have dozed off.
I don’t remember anything said about the book or India till Q and A started.
I haven’t looked at the book yet and not even wanting signed copy like other people filling the room, just sat there and listened what other folks had to ask bigshots.
People who spoke up are artists, writers, world travelers, activist of some sort. Very white and very Strand, very NY.
Someone asked Francesco, all the place you could have been, why did you want to settle in NY?
" sometimes place chose you"
Why don’t you care about political side of India, far far diverse than what said in the book?
" Let other people talk about that. Not to romanticize or anything but, same is here, in America. many different views and issues, so?"
Sir Rashdie did not miss the beat
“I will do that”
If you run away from history (Italy) why did you get attracted to another history?(of India)
He said something neat but I didn’t take notes and can’t remember… </p>

<p>What did I learn?
They are super charming. super smart, yes, super talented, yes. But that charm is what carry you through.
I should at least check out the book thoroughly.
(thou more likely my mandatory 10 bucks gift card will be turned into this
[Mr</a>. Bacon vs. Monsieur Tofu - Archie McPhee & Co.](<a href=“http://www.mcphee.com/shop/products/Mr.-Bacon-vs.-Monsieur-Tofu.html]Mr”>http://www.mcphee.com/shop/products/Mr.-Bacon-vs.-Monsieur-Tofu.html) for holiday gift to my kid -sold on the first floor
