Where do students who attend Cooper Union live? Am continuing to look at NY schools and wanted to know what housing options are available for students who attend Cooper Union. Would want to know if there is housing walking distance from the school since the school does not have a campus. Am envisioning late night studying sessions and would want teen to have the convenience of being near the school to which he applies.
Cooper has one dorm that is typically reserved just for first-years (plus students who are RA’s, others as space permits). It is apartment-style and there’s no meal plan, so this is a good option for maybe an independent student who doesn’t mind cooking or eating out for every meal (tons of restaurants and cafes around on every block, plus grocery stores like Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s not too far away).
My understanding is that rising 2nd-4th year students can get some help finding housing through a campus office in the spring, plus they get intel and leads by word-of-mouth through other students. I’ve also heard that sometimes, off-campus apartments are passed down through successive groups of Cooper students year-to-year.
