Cooper Union: What happens when you don't respond to an acceptance?

<p>Hi all,</p>

<p>I was accepted way back in December 2012 ED to Cooper Union for Engineering for the Class 2017. But I never responded due to issues with depression, an absolute fear of having no freedom to choose my own classes (4 years planned out) and having my future decided for me. After taking college classes at another University and dealing with my personal issues, I feel mature enough to attend Cooper Union now, but I am aware I have squandered my opportunity. </p>

<p>I never rejected Cooper’s offer of acceptance, I never received any notification of the withdrawal of my offer, and I did not request withdrawal of my offer to attend another University. I was wondering whether it would be wise for me to correspond with Cooper’s admission office to see if there are any possibilities (including transfer) for enrollment opportunities. In the rare case that anyone can share a similar experience, that would be nice as well.</p>

<p>Your offer is certainly no longer open. You would have to reapply as a transfer, and having never responded to an ED acceptance I would say you have VERY little chance of getting in. It’s not a criminal act but baggage will follow.</p>

<p>What do you have to lose by sending them a contrite letter like you just wrote here. </p>

<p>Once admissions offers are not responded to by the deadline with an acceptance and deposit they are null and void. You are now just another applicant. This happens a lot with RD applicants who don’t do the courtesy of a decline, they soon figure out your aren’t enrolling. ED is different because by using ED you promise to enroll if accepted (although it is not criminal if you don’t.) I don’t know how they will regard your history. You could ask as suggested above.</p>

<p>One thing you will have to determine is if they will consider you a transfer applicant or not. Different colleges have different criteria for that. Admission rate itself is very low and transfer rate must be miniscule. But nothing ventured nothing gained.</p>
