Anyone been to Copenhagen lately with 4 adults (one of the “adults” is 14-year-old DS) in one hotel room? If at all possible, we’d like to stay under $300, which is more difficult than it sounds. This would be for May 28, one night prior to leaving the next day for a cruise. Because we will be getting off the long overnight flight from the U.S., I’d like as nice a hotel room as we can get, i.e. good beds, not pull-outs, and breakfast. After the cruise, we’re staying two extra nights and we have that hotel picked out already. Just looking for the one-nighter, at this point.
Marriott AC hotel is amazingly nice, is located right next to the airport and provides a free shuttle. However, it will not let you book 4 people in one room. If you are a Marriott point member, you might be able to use points to book a second room. Under $300 is difficult because there are very few hotels that would allow 4 people per room. Sometimes, booking 2 rooms is cheaper than booking a suite for 4.
Part of being a close family, we have no problem sleeping 3 to a bed. I know it’s cheating, but we generally crammed all 5 of us into a two-queen room, just making the reservation for 2 or 4, whichever is allowed. We would arrive two at a time, just one of us checking in at the desk.
www.booking.com is a great web site for this question. You can enter the number of people, plus it gives you the ratings on all the hotels.
Magnetron, the OP said they wany breakfast; the problem usually arises when the hotel scans your card at the entrance to the breakfast room… European hotels are quite sophisticated when it comes to tech. Sure you can say the extra folks are just meeting you for breakfast… but it costs a pretty €
@BunsenBurner Not related to the OP, but how do you get that euro symbol on your keyboard?
We were in Copenhagen recently. Some folks here on CC suggested airbnb. I found a beautiful and spacious apartment for 3 of us for $124 a night (plus some additional fees) but the range varied quite a bit. You might find something there that will work. You’ll have to do a little research though because some have 2 or 3 night minimums and I wouldn’t expect breakfast to be included (but with the money you save you could eat out!).
As for hotels we did stay a night at the Hilton which is literally at the airport (we had an early morning flight to catch). It was a short walk to the terminal. Maybe you can find a good price on a discount website. They did include breakfast (and wifi!).
“Not related to the OP, but how do you get that euro symbol on your keyboard?”
I typed it on my iPhone.
I found this link once when trying to type French accents, but it also says how to type € -

For Euros symbol it is Alt-Shift-2 (all at once). It is for Apple devices but there are probably other instructions around for other types.
Most places we stayed did not scan cards (Frankfurt, Munich, London, Zurich, never been to Copenhagen). The one place that did, we loaded up plates with what could conceivably be a two person breakfast and walked up to the room. Not sure if it was allowed or not, just don’t slow down. Breakfast in Munich, the one place I remember the price, was 40 euro per person extra, cheaper to go to a restaurant.
We got hosed with our recent stay in Copenhagen…there was a medical convention going on. We stayed one night at a really bare bones hotel neat the airport. I’ll ask my husband the name…It’s as basic a hotel as I have ever stayed at , but the breakfast was included and actually really good !
Would any of you eat at a buffet restaurant and swap out with someone hiding in the bathroom so you could pay for one fewer person? I doubt it. So why in the world is everyone willing to scheme around to overload a room or get breakfasts they aren’t entitled to? Not trying to be Mr. Morals, but this kind of behavior hurts the next traveler down the line.
Well, here’s something I routinely did. My business partner was super duper premium on Marriott, getting free upgrades, free breakfast, access to executive lounges, etc. When I would travel internationally, she would make the reservation in her name and add me on as a guest in the room. Then when I got there and checked in, I’d say that she was delayed in flight or whatever. That got me all those perks. She got the points for the room, not me, but I was fine with that trade off. So sue me.
Or, we might be in hotels where 2 of us had access to the exec lounges where you had free food 24/7 and 2 of us didn’t. So we’d have the other 2 join us in the lounges. For all they knew, we were 2 to a room instead of 1 to a room.
Pizzagirl, hotels’ base rate assumes 2 people per room, so there were no losses to the hotel in that case. When families or college kids pack 5-6 bodies in a 2-person room, it is a different story.
Anyway… Back to the topic! Any other hotel suggestions?
Don’t you think “everyone” is an overstatement? In fact, when you posted that only one person had made any suggestion of “scheming”. FWIW, I agree with you, but I don’t understand why you suddenly included everyone.
Y’all continue to chat, if other folks are interested. We have reserved the Scandic Sydhavnen for one night pre-cruise. One room for four people was about $300 and includes breakfast.
The Marriott, while beautiful, was way too expensive (like $600 for one night!). We’ve burned up the TripAdvisor, booking.com, trivago, hotels.com and priceline websites the past couple of days, but I’m pleased with what we ended up with. Our two nights after the cruise will be closer to Tivoli, at the City Hotel Nebo.
$600 - wow. When kid stayed there, it was more like $150 for 2 folks…
Enjoy your cruise!
@ClaremontMom You are right, “everyone” is not willing to scheme. The same person posted twice, and there were a couple of other posts that seemed accepting of the behavior.
I suggest you go to Tripadvisor and put in your hotel dates and then search for hotels. It will list the hotels in order of ranking, along with the price. As others have suggested, take a look at Airbnb. I suspect that will be your best bet.
I am going to be in Copenhagen a month before you, and the hotel rooms are really cheap! I didn’t understand what the fuss was about until I look at the rates for your date. They are indeed pretty high.
