Cordless Vacuums

I am starting to research, so looking for your opinions on best cordless vacuum. Dyson, Shark or something else? I don’t have pets. I want to retire my 15 year old Electrolux canister vacuum to back up use for baseboards, etc.

I have a Shark cordless and although it picks up a lot, I don’t really feel like it gets dirt that is deeper in the rug. I used to have a much bigger Dyson with a cord and I feel like that really deep cleaned my rugs. I have a lot of wall to wall carpeting so I vacuum a lot. I also use it on my hardwoods and sometimes I feel like a lot of the dirt is just getting blown around instead of getting sucked up. I may go back to a Dyson soon and just use my shark in my basement.

I just bought a Shark cordless from Costco with self cleaning brush. Love it so far. I can almost finish the house on one charge, it folds in half for nice storage, it’s slim enough to fit under couches and bureaus. No long hair wrapped around the brush. I don’t need perfection in a vacuum; I need user friendly and this fits for me.

Dyson. it is a thing of beauty. It is light. It cleans really well. It is easy to empty. Has great attachments.

We are on our second cordless Dyson at home and have several other brands at work. The Dyson is easy to use and does the job each time. I only bought a second one because my husband kept taking mine to other parts of the house where he had done a home improvement project or hobby and not returned it to charge…or returned it with weird stuff that was more worthy of a shop vac… So now he has the old one (maybe 10 years) in his office and I have the newer one with an updated battery that lasts a little longer. The first one I bought refurbished and never had an issue with it. The newer one I bought on sale online from Dyson with deep discounts when they were pushing out newer models. I have a hard time paying full price

We have a corded Dyson that is probably pushing 15 years, that we hardly use since the cordless ones do such a great job. That was bought refurbished as well. Do not be afraid of Dyron refurbished- they are cleaned and tested.

I love taking the cordless ones out to the car with the different attachments and quickly cleaning things up.

I grew up with Electrolux and they are just not the same quality. My mom’s newer one is not worth the money.

That sounds like what we have. We only use ours on hardwood but it does a good job on our constant dog hair.

I have a Dyson V8 and it works like a charm on our cat hair-infused area rugs. I also got a super lightweight Dyson stick thing to vacuum hardwoods in between mopping (Tineco is the vacumop of choice here!).

Dyson fan here. I love mine, and bought one for both D and S (from Costco when they put them on $ off special). We all mostly have hardwood floors, with area rugs here and there. After S visits, I like using the hand attachment on the couches because he sheds. He’s such a good boy and is so gentle with the toddler, he can sit wherever he wants!

We mounted the charger in the garage, which is right outside the laundry room. Out of sight, but easy access to the main rooms.

I really hate vacuuming, but the Dyson almost makes it fun. I think my other family members feel the same, as they are more likely to clean up their own messes since we got it!

After each of my kids was born, I returned to work quickly, in order to avoid vacuuming. That’s how much I hate it.

Let me just throw in a plug for Roomba. I have one upstairs and one downstairs, and they do a great job. If you get one with the “tower,” it even empties the dirt bin for you, so you only have to change the bag maybe once every three or four months.

This made me laugh.

My sons are both Dyson fans (older one also has a roomba). If I were you, if you aren’t in a hurry, I watch for sales . Last fall I was able to cobble a Black Friday sale , where I saved $250, with a 20% Rakuten rebate AND a 2% credit back on my AmEx card (watch those offers on the app and apply them before you purchase). With all these deals that practically paid me to buy them! I bought one for each son and their family.

I’ve been a Dyson fangirl until recently. I have one with cord and two cordless. Recently I’ve had trouble with my cordless spitting kitty litter back out. So I decided to see if I could get it fixed. Lo and behold, there is not a Dyson repair shop in Houston and Dyson will not let regular vacuum repair shops access Dyson parts. When I call Dyson warranty I reach the Philippines and they aren’t much help. They directed me to a Dyson facility in a nearby town, but I hate the idea of spending an hour+ taking my vacuum in for a repair and then another hour+ picking it back up. However, that was the only option available. So I called the Dyson repair only to get an answering machine with hours of business, no appointments, and no way to speak to a person. So I called the Philippines back and asked for a better number. No problem … I should be able to contact someone at the Dyson shop. They gave me the number to call. I looked at it and pointed out to the man that the number he just gave me was the one I had just called to reach the Philippines. He checked and there is no other number.

So stalemate. I have vacuums that probably need nothing more than minor repairs but limited means to get them.

Dyson didn’t use to be this way. There used to be a repair facility in Houston. The warranty number - if called - was helpful.

I’m hesitant to purchase another Dyson. And by the way the one I’m having trouble with is a cordless - just slightly over the 2-year warranty mark.

My those of you with Dyson never need repairs or, if so, may you have a repair facility in your town.

Same. It’s easy to use and maneuver, but it’s not as good as my Shark corded. I gave the cordless to DD to use at her apartment. I would love to have a cordless at my office though, I think it would work well on the low-traffic, pet free, low-pile carpet and make the job faster.

This is a cordless one? Is it lightweight? How long does it hold a charge? Thanks!

No clue- they belong to my kids!

For those who hate vacuuming? Try noise cancelling headphones and podcasts! I have to vacuum my entire house every week and it takes me 1:30. I’m always exhausted and ill-tempered by the end. My kids bought me the noise cancelling Air Pods so I could listen to my German podcasts while vacuuming. It’s been a gamechanger, especially since I have to concentrate on what they’re saying.

As far as a cordless, I bought this one for Xmas. Most weeks, I still use my heavy Miele with the 50 foot extension cord (because its cord is too short to be practical!) But I wanted something for the 100+ year old hardwoods when I was too exhausted to carry the Miele up/down two sets of stairs, and/or I needed to do a quick vacuuming before we leave on a weekend trip, or if we have company. I really liked that it has 2 battery packs, so it will last forever. But mostly, I needed something soft, without a rolling brush. This one has an attachment that’s more like a rolling sponge/dust cloth. I really like it, but I haven’t used it on carpet. Not much of our house has carpet.

Not sure if that links to the v11 or the v11 extra (which is what we got for them)

I like the Dyson. My husband loves that thing for some reason, and he actually vacuums with it occasionally, so win win.
This is my second, both purchased when Costco had a sale.

I second the recommendation for the Roomba. I only have one so carry it between floors which does work but you need to be home to move it to the base to empty and recharge. I have my eye on getting a second one.

I have a corded Shark for the stairs. It’s significantly lighter than my old corded Dyson.
